Forced Induction SystemsDetailed discussions regarding cold-air intake systens, superchargers, turbo chargers, and other induction systems for your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "AFE Intake Installed", within the Forced Induction Systems forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Well I finally got my intake from SoCal Motorsports and installed it two nights ago on my RCSB. Now all I need is my Banks Monster Exhaust to be delivered.
The AFE Intake is a very nice kit and I could feel better throttle response via my buttdyno. Not as impressive as installing an intake on a turbo'd motor, but nice sound none the less. I did have a few problems with the install though.
1. The threads for brass hose connector where not correct and ended up stripping when I went to install the connector. I just re-threaded it and installed a new connector for the hose.
2. The aluminum cover on the filter did not align properly. Don't know how to fix this as it looks like it is due to shrinking of the plastic. (Please see photos for the gaps) I am going to forward these photos to AFE and see what they have to say.
3. The hole on the upper right side of the intake box was also not threaded properly. I cleaned the threads and opened em up a little and the bolt finally went in with no trouble.

Never argue with an idiot. They will bring you down to their level and beat you with experience!

That could be a REAL show stopper if you don't have a tap and die set big enough. I have an AFE drop in filter. I was thinking about the whole CAI setup, but not so sure now. Also not sure how much I would gain for that much $$$. I feel my truck is snappier and sounds much better with the drop in already.

Well I have a call in with AFE and they are researching. This may have been a fluke with my intake. Please note that these were not forced in when attempting to install. The threads were not clean from the manufacturer and no fault of my own.
Also I had a drop in AFE filter and there is a big difference between that and this intake. I think it was worth the money and would do it again even if only to gain the sound that this thing makes at WOT.
There are so many things that I would like to do to my Tundra for both sound and performance. Only problem is that each one costs hundreds of dollars. Put them all together and it's a bit over whelming.

Here is a picture of my Afe filter element. I had one of the first 3 Afe intakes made. They had to send me a new tube as the MAF sensor would not line up with the holes in the tube.I had no problems with brass nipple screwing into the tube or with the fitment of the filter cover.
Does anybody have the "Pro Dry S" type of filter and how do you like it? Otherwise are you guys satisfied with this intake, I'm really thinking about getting one.

Looks good but the fit issues should NOT be there with the amount of money we pay for these CAI......looks like they put these out to fast without any QA looking at them
Yeah, i love that sound. Its supposed to do more than a "15HP" gain right? Let us know how it does on your gas mileage and HP so i can figure out the cost and pay-off basis. I'm really considering purchasing SOME type of intake, but i want to make sure i'm getting my $$'s worth!
Someone or magazine need to do a CAI shootout for the tundras! Im betting all of them are withen 5 HP though--go with the one that looks the best I guess
