Forced Induction SystemsDetailed discussions regarding cold-air intake systens, superchargers, turbo chargers, and other induction systems for your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "K&N fipk, & Trd dual exhaust thus far. JBA headers + Y-pipe???", within the Forced Induction Systems forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I just recently installed a k&n 63 series intake and trd dual exhaust onto my tundra and am still lookin for a bit more power (all purpose use). I have a good deal on some jba headers and will prob be buyin them shortly. Im just questioning on whether or not i should also go with a jba y-pipe or would i be losing to much backpressure and torque downlow. Im not to sure on how much the trd system flows but im pretty sure it cant be to much more then stock? that's kinda why i think i could use a y-pipe for some additional gains. Input appreciated.
Y-pipe is a waste of money, the JBA is not even stainless. You might find that the stock air box with a bit of modification will get better results than the FIPK.(See air box mods in Member mod area) the K&N makes alot of noise at wide open throttle. Additionally other members have had issues with K&N filters all togather, the oil has fouled more thana few MAF's. I suspect that over oiling might be the problem there. The only other bolt on that might be recommended is the ASP underdrive pulley, it seems to be solid gain for not alot od green, mine is on order and my bolt ons will be complete.
If you want to get crazt lextreme.com offers a stroker kit, mmmmmm that would be nice.

Pretty much what he said. I had a K&N intake at one time, lost a lot of low end power and the actual filtering was less than acceptable. I later removed it in favor of the stock air box. I do have the ASP underdrive pulley and that is probably the only mod that i have noticed anything from. I have heard very good reviews on headers though, saying that it is one of the best power increasing mods for the tundra. I know you said "all purpose use", but what exactly does that consist of?
Yeah i think im gonna scratch that y-pipe off my list of mods. definetly adding on asp pulley though. i've looked around before to see if a underdrive pulley was made for the tundra, guess i didnt search enuff. Any idea on dyno numbers for the pullley and also belt size needed or does it utilize stock size belt. my all purpose use just means some towing, 4x4, and fast drivin
hi, i just removed my resinator & i wanted my y pipe changed, he makes his own ,or i could have bought the JBA y pipe and he could install it.
BUT my custom exhaust shop owner, told me DO NOT remove the y pipe.
do yourself a huge favor and keep the stock 1 in place.
headers and unichip will give you the biggest gain's.
now with unichip, you better check to see what map's they have for the CAI.
headers and cat back have 1 map, so no matter what type's you have there all the same"MAP".
to recieve the best possible results all 3 map's need to be done:cai, headers, cat back.
good luck,
gorilla
I would stay away from the Unichip, they supposedly don't do $h!t for non-vvti engines. You will need a shorter belt for the underdrive pulley, i will try to look for what i have. I got my belt from NAPA.
I have an SOS "Y" pipe that works just fine for me. I have this in conjunction with a Doug Thorley cat back and have no issue with loss of low end power. Just take a close look at the design of the factory Y pipe. Looks like the accounting department engineered the design...How do you join two 2" pipes as cheaply as possible into one 2.5" pipe? If everybody is so concerned with loss of backpressure, what do they think the 4 cats provide?

brayson, some here have good idea's.
many just don't have a clue. no offense people.
they haven't done any mod's to there own trucks.
so you have a choise listen to member's who have done some mod's & lead you in the right direction, or listen to member's who still have a stock truck.
it's that simple.
if you want more power we are very limited.
cold air intake
headers
exhaust
unichip or jet
underpully
different gear's
smaller tires's and rim's.
drop the truck, so there is less drag.
etc...
many of these thing's are just small increase's.but a increase is a increase.
if you want huge power increase's, & you have 4,000 to 10,000 to waste.
do yourself a huge favor, and put either a supecharger & turbo on.
and all your power issue's are resolved.
but now you will have possible engine, tranny, rear end issue's.
and you will need to stop this bad boy, so up-grading the brake's is a good idea.
and a few other internel parts.
and long term(10year) useage is limited to much less than 10 year's,
depending on how you drive "the beast"!
good luck, i hope your able to get it to where you want.

Thanks for the info on the belt and others. For now im going to install the headers and pulley and feel out if she's got enough power. With those four mods intake, headers, pulley, and exhaust im thinkin i should be 35-40hp more over stock. should be a noticeable improvement until i put my new 33" tires+rims on. but if i still need more i will prob go with gearing and an ecu flash or something along those lines. Until then however i gotta do some more research and collect a few more paychecks seeing as how i dumped around 8500 into the truck in accessories wheels, stereo etc.. I guess its not really dumpin cash into the truck considerin it should be one sweet ride when im finished.
