Default Super charger belt question

I have an 03 Access cab with a 4.7 engine and a TRD supercharger. It came new with a Gates K061058 belt. This is what the supercharger literature calls for also. The tensioner was always running with very little play. The first time I went to change the belt it was so tight I could not get it off. I left it 15,000 more miles and changed it with an exact replacement today. With the tentioner pried all the way over, I could not get the belt on. I finaly took the idler pulley on the drivers side off, installed the belt and was able to then reinstall the idler by pushing hard against the belt. The tensioner was held in the install position during this entire process. My question is, what belts are others running with superchargers? Not just brands, I need sizes. Thanks

I discovered from the install instructions on the supercharger, that the idler pulley on the drivers side is to be installed after the belt is on. If you know that when you go to replace a belt, the belt install is a piece of cake. I only wish I read about it before I had to figure it out the hard way!

I had so much trouble with the supplied belt, I went down to my friendly O'Reily's and picked up several Gates belts in 5 mm increments.

I settled on Gates #K061066 which is 2722mm long. It is much easier to install and doesn't put the big load on the pulley snout. I don't lose any boost at high RPM, so no slipping either.

I don't know why Toyota specified the original pain-in-the-butt belt.

I had the opposite problem, on my LX470. I put the standard belt that was supplied on, and the tensioner was so relaxed, that when you reved it, the belt would touch the row above it, and tear chunks of the little V's away.
It was a 2618mm belt, I tried a 2615, and the same happened, then I tried a 2605, and it was a nightmare to get on, but it was possible only on the round edged idler pulley, not on the pulley's with the shoulder. Now it doesn't touch, and the slipping problem has gone too.

Thanks for this thread, guys (gender neutral). This has been giving me a problem and could not find the answer. Perhaps this could be the reason that my truck's intermittently overheating & a/c's cutting out.
I love this forum.

I've just been having a ball with changing out mine. I took the recommendation of using the gates #K01066, and i (*think) i've got a lot of slipping going on. On the underside of the hood, there's a sticker that shows the belt routing diagram, and it says that my truck should use a 2700mm belt. I'm not sure what size was on it (OEM), but it seems like going 22mm smaller than the gates' that I just put on is gonna be pretty tough.
*UPDATE
But, like i said, i installed the gates' and I'm pretty sure i had a lot of slipping. although it could just be in my head. I ended up doing the following:
1) 1.5 hrs removing oem belt (yeah, that's right. I was worried i was gonna break the tensioner)
2) 15 min installing gatorback 2725mm belt. it was too loose & i got some high pitched whistling. I think it was the belt rubbing against itself at the top of the tensioner.
3) uninstall gatorback.
4) 10 min to install gates 2722 belt (this one went pretty fast!)
5) pretty sure i got some slipping. I'd rev the engine & the boost barely went up and immediately dropped.
6) reinstalled oem belt despite the fact that i took out a few chunks while using pliers to help remove it (yeah, i'm brilliant). The next time i drove it (~14 miles) i was expecting slipping, but i don't think i had any.

Anyone have any thoughts on the tensioner, itself? It took me a while to get it to finally loosen up (perhaps b/c the oem belt was such a tight fit). Is there any way to increase the tension aside from the tensioner? perhaps moving an idler pulley or something.

Looks like there has been some production variations in the 4.7 over the years.
The fact that some people install the supplied belt with little effort while others
(like me) have to resort to self help in the form of a longer belt to finish the
installation would suggest that's true.

I recommend you do the same thing I did. Go down to your local auto parts
and pick up some Gates belts in 5mm increments starting with the 2705mm
and go with the smallest size that is reasonably easy to install and doesn't slip.
That will be your new "stock replacement" size.

I believe the tensioner is just a spring loaded pulley, I don't know what could
be done to alter the tension it provides short of replacement.

Ok, so I finally got my serpentine belt changed out. I do want to clarify something- my supercharger came WITH my tundra- so i have no experience with the install or the supplied parts.

After changing out 2 different belts and then putting the oem back on (last weekend), I finally got it done THIS weekend. What worked best for me was that I ordered the part from my local dealership- and it was the same price as the gatorback and the gates that I had tried before. It's a 2700mm.
The part #:
PTR30-34046
description: TRD Belt SC 47 04 TU

I ordered it on tuesday afternoon, and it was ready for pickup on thursday. It IS still a snug fit. But even with my limited car repair experience, I was able to remove the old oem, and get this one on by myself.

I hope this info is helpful.

Marcus

One thing to keep in mind when trying longer belts is that while they are easier to install (the "stock" belt @2700mm was a beotch to get installed) they may cause problems down the road. The Gatorback belt mentioned in this thread will work - for a while - however, be sure to watch the space between the tension pulley top and the part of the belt that goes over the top of the Power Steering pulley because as the belt wears and moves deeper into the pulley grooves, it will, in effect, lengthen. This space then will become small enough to allow the belt to rub groove-side to groove-side - which compounds the problem - and will result in screeching, and a burnt rubber smell. Don't ask how I know

If you're seeing a lot of rubber dust around the Power Steering pump housing, and noticing that the tops of the pulley grooves are getting polished (indicating that the belt is riding really deep and that the sides of the belt are worn out) you've got a worn out belt. In my case, the space between the belt faces was almost zero...

Personally, I'm going back to the stock belt. Prices have come down to "sane" (~$22) and you can actually GET them now, so I'll opt for a little more pain installing it for the peace of mind knowing that my belt is less likely to eat itself.... I'll have to try removing the idler pulley this time to see if that makes installation go any smoother (thanks for the tip, UnSub!).

BTW - here's that diagram....
