Well I just got my AIRAID and installed it yesterday. Absolutely love it. Just wanted to share this with everyone. Between my CAI and custom exhaust my truck sounds bad. Picks of the intake and exhaust are posted on my pictures.

One question.... do you have the whistle? I moved the filter out a little and it still had the whistle. I haven't really been able to thoroughly investigate it... maybe i'll do it this weekend if my exhaust doesn't come in.

It does sound more of a whistle... almost like turbo. Definitely not the same "air sucking" sound that my AEM on my 4Runner had.

Glad you like it... i'll have to update on my review. I think my original review was a little premature. Don't get me wrong.... I love this thing and the beast it brought out of my truck. No Regrets..... yet.

I tried something different when I installed my air dam. Instead of mounting the bottom plate ontop of the lip I mounted them it on the bottom. It gives you about a 1/8 of inch gap in three spots on the air dam but not enough to make allow in a bunch of heat (I ran a remote thermometer into the air chamber area and it was only 6 degrees hotter than what my outside air temp was reading). Get this though. NO WHISTLE!!!!!!!! I do get a sound in the morning when it's cooler but it's more of a sucking sound like if you bite your bottom lip and breath in real fast but that's it. I since everything seemed alright and I don't have a whistle I didn't change the bottom to the way it was supose to be. So now I ask is the whistle comning from the air intake and just happen to get one that doesn't whistle or is it coming from air being sucked in from the bottom of the air dam?????

They have the same amount of cotton layer as everyone else, but they have a synthetic cotton layer to help prevent breakdown of the under layers, and they are using a higher grade rubberized compound so you don't have to worry about dry-rot...Volant is just over-priced. I run AirAid on all my vehicles and I love them. I refuse to run any other company's products...
Sounds like you have done your homework and know your stuff. Your 100% correct.

I always run the Airaid on my vehicles as well.

Volants products are not only over priced ( because of very low production numbers) but they are also made of very very poor quality, and the customer service they offer makes Walmart customer service look good.

I have bought from them and have had great service.

I always try to reccomend them for Airaid Products.

So here's the update:

I did the same thing as you beerguy, mounted the base plate on the outside but by accident. It had the 1/8" gap all the way around but it still had the whistle. So I mounted it the correct way and sealed the corners with black adhesive silicon sealant. I figured, maybe the whistle was coming from the gaps. However, it didn't work.... actually the whistle isn't as constant anymore. Now it's only during certain RPM's and Transmission Shifting. So I guess it did improve but not completely gone. I also messed with the placement of the filter by moving it out a little... in hopes to maybe tune sometime. Anyway, I'm done messing with it (for now).

As for the noise level, this thing is loud. Like I said, my first review was a little premature. I was driving on the freeway yesterday and during acceleration (2500-3500 rpm) this thing roars. I do like the tone though... I find myself itching to slam on the gas but then I look at my average MPG and the thought of $3.60 a gallon stops me.

I agree with you, I want to just let it go but I've found that I get a better longer sound when I don't stomp on it. My buddy, who I helped put the Volant in his Tundra, agrees that the AIRAID has better throttle response and sound. As far as the whistle though, I've had people in my truck who claim they can hear it from the passengers side with the windows down but I just don't hear it. I guess working for 17 years around GAS Turbine Engines has taken it's toll on my hearing.

On a different note, did you get you Exhaust yet?
