Default K&N Drop in Air Filter

do u think that the drop in air filter will save me some gas or no. i dont want to buy a intake right now and was wondering if the drop in air filter would help. i'm getting around 12.8mpg right now, and i want to increase that, i have only 3500 miles on my tundra right now.

I tried one and fuel mileage worsened due to reduced low-end torque. The Toyota brand paper filter produced the best mileage and power. Just change every 15K. I've also tried a Trueflow drop in and it is equal to the Toyota paper filter.

A K&N wont improve your gas milage. You will save a little money in terms of maintenance costs because instead of replacing the filter every year, you can just wash, reoil and reinstall the K&N.
Just be careful that you dont overoil the K&N because that can foul out your MAF sensor.

Atleast use the AFE replacement filter if your going to swap them.

K&N = 20yr old filter technology, which basically means, K&N is living off of the name.

k and n is living off the name. I have a k and n drop in and held it up to the sun to find shocking results, the holes are huge! I can imagine all the dust going through. I also have a k and n HAI which I run in the winter. I do it because it seems to give me a slight kick on the freeway only. I agree for normal driving the stock box/filter give better results all around. you wont save gas, just money on filter replacements with the trade off of inferior filtering. man this thread is old huh.

Need to watch th K&N air filter. It will trigger the mass senser. To much air. I had to replace two mass sensors twice & had to go w/ original equipment. If you want one need to get one from Toyota & works great about $600.00. K&N will not refund my money back.

right to the point gutz! Did I read $600 for a drop in? or the maf sensor? I don't think you can get too much air, not from a filter. Your motor only draws so much air, filter change doesn't change the air sucking capacity, just reduces restriction. I think the maf sensor problems come from over oiling. before I studied this forum I ran the k&n drop in for 2 years with no maf prolems. back to paper.

Hi Guys...I used a K&N drop-in for 2+ years...finally had to put back in the OEM filter due to whistling/ whining noise caused by K&N...I put up with that whistle for all that time, thought it was coming from the radio speakers!? B
