You dont see it on new cars cause because the concept is new itself. Its not that it is less reliable, it does have limitations (no high water fording, etc) but it still makes boat loads of power.

Check out STS Turbo's website...there are PLENTY of cars/trucks out there that make just as much if not more power than their blown counterparts. Despite being further from the manifolds/headers, it can be tuned accordingly.

To each his own...but I am a big fan of the ease of install of the rear mount and know they make loads of power to boot...

id rather supercharge then turbo i think just because of the large turbo spooling and all that. Supercharger gives more of a low end push.

Default Re: Turbo Kit

Good Thing About Remote Mount Is The Piping, It Will Act Like An Intercooler Reducing Intake Air Temp And It Will Keep The Heat Down From The Engine Bay. There Is Very Minimal Amount Of Boost Loss From The Piping.

Our Trucks Have Massive Bottom End Torque, So A Turbo Would Be Better Cause Of The Added Higher Rpm Horsepower

Remember state and federal law says you cannot touch anything before the two last cat converters. So leagally the turbo or turbos have to be way back under the bed of the truck. Good luck.

I highly doubt this will be a carb legal setup to begin with. IOW - for "offroad use only"

my main concern with a remote mount is the turbo being out in the open. second is lag. how much lag are you looking at for all that extra piping?? its like putting a big IC on a small factory size turbo you get lag and you most likely wont be getting the best performance out of the turbo due to the fact its working harder to fill the excess in the over sized IC. so with a remote mount if the piping is to large or the turbo to small i would think that you would get this same lag. i understand the whole you dont need a IC on a remote mount but how do you decide on piping size, turbo size & trim etc etc?? if it did happen i might look into it if its a nice kit but even then the whole "hey look that guy has a turbo under the bed of his truck!" worries me

I always hear about turbo lag, exactly how long does it take for the turbo to spool up?

I don't think people understand how little lag time these remote mounts add to the equation. There really is very little spool time. One has to remember that these things are also not going to be huge turbos that someone might put under the hood. Check out STS's site for sure, they have a couple of nice vids of a silverado that is making GOBS of power and watch his videos and listen for lag, almost non existent.

Guys, we have 5.7 LITER motors. That's a ton of displacement. Our engines will flow enough gas that turbo lag (a function of how long it takes to spin the turbo up to ~120K RPMs, in addition to pressurizing all the piping) will be minimal. If you floored your truck at 40mph, the lag wouldn't be any longer than how long it takes to downshift to 2nd gear. Plus you're not going to loose any of your current power, so you'll still have the massive torque from our motor for lower rpms with the turbo accentuating the top end.

Its crazy too because I read all of the customer testimonials on the STS site and several of them saw mpg increases even up to 2-3 mpg over stock!!
