Forced Induction SystemsDetailed discussions regarding cold-air intake systens, superchargers, turbo chargers, and other induction systems for your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Turbo Kit", within the Forced Induction Systems forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Well, we have decided to make a remote mount turbo kit for my tundra 5.7. I am planning on trying several different setups with turbos mounted different ways. After we figure out what works best for the tundra we will make a kit available to the public. Hopefully we will be done with the prototype by the end of the month. If anyone had any opinions on what we should offer with our kits let me know.
Our first prototype consists of:
Garrett Gt-40
Tial 60mm Wastgate
Remote oiling system
Tial Q BOV
Stainless Exhaust Tubing
Aluminum charge pipes
if you want it to sell, it better be much better than the trd supercharger.
and
maybe give a optional twin turbo.
and
hook up with the guy who disabled the speed limitor.
now you might have people looking into your product, a little more closely.
just my 2 cents

Basic/Entry level kit: for those just wanting a little more hp (around 50hp):
-smaller quick spool turbo
-manual boost control - preferably adjustable from inside the cab.
-basic blow off valve and wastegate.
-basic computer retune
-depending on whether or not the stock injectors max out even with this setup, you may or may not include a basic set of higher flow injectors.
- Option for CAI
High Performance Kit - something good for around 150hp:
-Gt-40 turbo or better, depending on spool up with the rest of the kit
-Intercooler
-Stainless Steel intercooler tubing
-upgraded high flow fuel pump, fuel lines
-high quality high flow injectors
-spark plugs with correct heat range
-electronic boost control with A/F management/monitor
-high quality blow off valve and wastegate
- custom computer retune based on customer's mods (exhaust, lift, big tires, etc)
- Option for custom intake manifold (might be necessary anyway)
- Option for custom high flow headers (might be necessary anyway)
- Custom High flow CAI
- Stainless Steel exhaust components (down-pipe, etc) to connect to existing Cat-back.

We are planning both single and twin turbo configurations with and without intercoolers. The kit should be relatively inexpensive compared to the TRD supercharger and should make more power. We will be working on the first prototype this week so i will post pics along the way.

What locations have you contemplated to do cold weather / high altitude tests to make sure your system works under all conditions?
im not a fan of remote mount kits too much piping for me. id rather have a nice twin turbo set up that mounts in the engine bay(people steal our cats why not a turbo).
Please don't mount it under the hood..........it's hot enough there already.

Never argue with an idiot. They will bring you down to their level and beat you with experience!

heat can be dealt with. i just dont see an advantage to all that piping and leaving the turbo open under the truck with road debris etc etc. in a situation where you are limited on space ok but if you have tons of room under the hood why not?? because of heat??? what vehicle isnt hot under the hood??
i see that you are in greenville. i go there all the time, in fact i was just there yesterday at my sister's house. would love to stop by your shop sometime and look at things...use my truck for testing lol

..........you made my point exactly - why make it that much hotter when there are cooler alternatives? Heat, not extra tubing, kills power/performance.

i dont think the performance gain from a remote mount turbo would be worth it. if it was so great why do all the vehicles that come turbo from the factory have the turbo under the hood? if it was better to have a remote mount wouldn't they do it right from the factory? yes heat does kill performance but like i said you can deal with heat.
