Default Electric Supercharger

This looks interesting.

Here is a outfit that is marketing an electric supercharger. Now before you laugh and write this off as another ebay gimmick, take a look; there might actually be something to this thing. The Thomas Knight Electric Supercharger actually got a write-up in Turbo Magazine a few years ago, which might give it a little street cred.

Instead of running off the alternator (which cannot produce enough current to drive a motor sufficient to produce enough boost) it instead uses a bank of batteries stored in the trunk. It only kicks in during acceleration and the batteries are allowed to recharge between bursts. An upgraded 200amp alternator helps shorten the recharge times. It makes up to 8 pounds of boost.

The only thing is, it is not designed for continuous use; only for acceleration. Think of it as "electronic nitrous". As battery technology improves, so would this thing. The price is $2500 which is less than half the cost of a typical S/C. The only additional expense would be the wiring to relocate your main battery to the trunk, plus the cost of the supplemental batteries. It requires no belts, and additional piping is minimal.

Comments anyone?
