This is a discussion thread titled "Replace Exhaust Manifold", within the Forced Induction Systems forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Took my 2001 Tundra 2WD Ltd in for 60,000 mile service and was told will need to replace exhaust mainfolds before next state inspection to the tune of $1865.12 for parts and labor by a Richmond, Va. Toyota dealer. Does this sound right that I would need to replace mainfolds at 60000 miles, truck rarely used for hauling just daily driver. Main reason I bought a Toyota and paid a premium was for maintenance and reliability. If anyone could give me some insight in why I would need new exhaust mainfolds so soon I'm eager to know- said they are making noise.
Thanks

Some of the early Tundras had problems with the exhaust manifolds leaking. Unfortunately there's no TSB for it.
However, you could go for aftermarket headers for less than that. The JBA's are good.

Hey,
I agree w/Genthar on the JBA headers... If you're gonna spend $1800+ on stk manifolds, you can get the Titanium coated JBA's for under $700 and high install costs are 'round $400... Do a search on "JBA" for more info on them.
Here's a PIC of the OEM manifolds next to the JBA's...

+3 on the JBA's. Although, I don't have the JBA's, I want them. However, I have stock back-ups if I ever need to replace them. So, free compared to $400 is a deal for me. Pluse, it's not hard to reaplace them either, just time consuming. $1800 for new manifolds installed...they are ripping you a new hole!!!
Hey Guys...wouldn't this fall under the 5 year/60k mile drivetrain warranty?
If not, I'm another vote for headers...$1800 for stock manifolds is a total rip off!

No problem found......! Until you guys on TS told me what the problem was, then they fixed it but tried to charge me for it! . THANKS A MILLION for all thr great info guys.

I just spent $1840.00US for JBA header installation, 2 New O2 sensors, timingbelt change, crank and cam seals, water pump, and spark plugs, at Bell rd Toyota here in Phx. Took them the truck on a Thursday was told would have it back Friday late.... Took them till the next Wed. to complete it. said they where out of stock on cam seals on Friday then they couldnt get the O2's out of the manifolds,etc.. all said and done they paid for rental for 6 days and was told I was given a discount....... .........Hope it helps.........AZ
Oh and get the JBA's they make a very noted improvement in the truck........
yeah, do the JBA's, I have the ss autochromes, and they are ok , cheap, and don't leak. i see a lot of manifold kits on ebay some times, left and right manifolds with o2 sensors for dirt cheap money (less than $400 most of the time) i think thatt dealership is giving you the fid. As a matter of fact, there is a set on there right now!

need to check with your dealer to find out if that is covered under the emmisions warranty because the dealer i use said that it is covered because mine leak ( haven't had time to take to dealer) he told me to bring it to them and they would fix it because toyota knows that there is a problem so many dealers have been replacing them under warranty using the 8yrs 80,000 mile emissions warranty or something of that nature if they want to it call toyota of america or just buy the headers if you dont want to deal with them. The headers are not hard to change just a little aggrevating.
Yes on the JBA's.
I have a 2003 Tundra Limited 4X4 with the following mods.
1. JBA Titanium Headers installed for $940.00
2. K&N Cold Air intake $249.00
3. Airaid Throttle Body spacer $120.00
4. True duals with Flowmaster Delta Series 50's $350.00
I also have Toyo Open Country AT Tires that are keep at 32 PSI.
For the money spent, man does it run strong now. I would love the TRD supercharger when they work the bugs out. It is getting 19.5 MPG city/highway combined driving. I have not took a long freeway trip to use a full tank yet to check the highway MPG.
