Forced Induction SystemsDetailed discussions regarding cold-air intake systens, superchargers, turbo chargers, and other induction systems for your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "Dual exhaust & air kit ???", within the Forced Induction Systems forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I was thinking of possibly going with a switch over to dual exhaust and a k&n air kit and was just wondering if any of you out there have made this switch to your Tundras and what the results were ?(i.e. mpg, acceleration, sound) Name brands and cost would help too. I would definately go stainless due to salt out here. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Try doing a search. There are thousands of posts summarizing people's results of different exhaust sytems - how much they cost, how they sound, how they perform, etc.

New here and still trying to figure everything out.lol Thanks though.
I am on my 2nd Tundra and on my first one we did a lot of tech research to get a system to match the Tundra's ECU so you don't lose power ect. Best combination was going with true duals from the cat back to a 2 in 2 out "X" type Magnaflow all stainless muffler, mandrel bent pipes same sizes as stock, coming out the back. If possible utilize your stock resonator and add another one which are plentiful "used" from here on the board. Then there will be no 2k DRONE which many have found. I have been on this board and listened to many clips of pipes and have seen & heard many combinations. And you will find out that whatever you do The truck is computerized and Toyota ain"T stupid & you will pay by thinking you can do it better. Most of the aftermarket air intake system mess up the MAF air sensor and you keep getting "check Eng Light" readings, especially the ones that you clean and add oil to them. I just purchased a 06 SR5 TRD with Borla duals 1 in 2 out the back it still had the resonator & also has the oil air cleaner system this is Toyota factory set-up & I so far do not like it at all. It is barley louder than stock and has DRONE all over the place!! IF it gets no better it will be changed to the true dual set-up I described above. And I will sell this one for what my custom made would cost which is half of the Borla price. Hope all this helps do a search on "EXHAUST" and you will find multitudes on the subject.. GOOD LUK & WELCOME!!!
Appreciate your help on the subject Tundradad. My thing is trying to get a few more mpg's out of her. Spoke to a guy on ebay who claimed he was seeing 3 to 4 mpg better after going duals and k&n kit. I'll have to do a little research though before I commit. Thanks again!

I'm gonna call trump. I did an exhaust/intake on my chevy... lost mpg. Friend did exhaust/intake on his car... lost mpg. I did an exhaust (no intake) on my tundra... same mpg.
I don't think you're gonna gain efficieny. If anything, you're gonna lose mpg. Maybe stay the same.
Do an exhaust for the SOUND. Nothing else. Don't even bother with an intake. Read the forums here and you'll see plenty of horor stories about the intakes, and no credible success stories.

Funny you should say that about the intakes. I was doing just that(researching) late into the night on intakes and the topic of biggest dissapointing mods made by owners and was floored by the # of people who said they wasted their money on these k&n intakes with little or no change in performance! I put the K&N filter in when I first got my truck and now after reading some of those posts, i'm starting to wonder if even that was a wise move, lol As far as exhaust goes, I'll probably just throw a nice ss muffler on and call it a day!(too many horror stories for my likeing) Later
I tried the K&N filter and returned to the stock. K&N sounded better, and gained some on the top end at the expense of the bottom end. Not a useful upgrade for me. Took out the charcoal filter and left the stock air in which I feel performs best.
I think I will be leaving my 05 Tundra stock. Everything I have read on this forum pretty much says that about the only gain you might get from a dual exhaust and intake mod is possibly a nicer exhaust note and maybe a couple of horses up top BUT at the expense of losing torque down below which is where it is most important in a truck IMO.
Stock is smart. If Toyota could get more HP, better performance, and improved fuel economy by bolting on an air cleaner, muffler, set of fuzzy dice, and curb feelers for a hundred bucks or so one would expect that being smart enough to design the whole vehilce, they'd take the cheap upgrade.
But perhaps in spending a few tens of millions on R&D they figured out what works more better than JC Whitney's bolt-ons....
Drive stock - spend the savings on your Harley (Triumph, wife, guns, favorite vice.... whatever).

I have custom duals and the K&N FIPK set up on my truck. Added MPG...no. The top end (higher revs) is a lot better, but I did lose some of my low end torque. Would I do it again?!?! Probably not. I would have just invested in headers and a magnaflow muffler.
