Default Re: Magnaflow Exhaust Installed

It's now August 27, 2009 and I have changed out my exhaust. I did evently go with the Magnaflow full SS catback system. I'm having the exact same issue as mentioned above. The exhaust has roughly 100 miles on it now, so hopefully the droning will get less, but it's very noticable at 1200-2000 rpms in any gear. At higher speeds 50+ mph it's not bad at all. It's the driving 30-45 mph down the street in traffic that is obnoxious.

Did the resonator ever help with this setup?

I have an 08 with 16775 duals, straight out the back. The drone at highway cruise is ridiculous....louder than at full throttle. I built my own resonators about half way down the tailpipes. All you need are two pieces of exhaust pipe around 26" long, each capped off at one end. Cut holes in the tailpipes going inboard and then weld in each resonator, uncapped side going into the tailpipe to make a "T" in each tailpipe between the spare tire and the differential. This will get rid of the drone, just like turning off a switch.

I have the 15820 on my Tundra. All I can say is give it time. I bought mine in January and thought seriously about removing it because the drone was so bad. After about 4 months I was driving home and I just noticed the noise was not there. I have heard some guys say they take time to "break in" which I thought was total BS but the sound on mine did change that's for sure. I have heard something about fibreglass in the muffler and that eventually wears out and changes the sound or something. Not sure about that but definately give time and see if the sound changes.
