This is a discussion thread titled "Magnaflow Exhaust Installed", within the Forced Induction Systems forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I finally got the Magnaflow cat-back exhaust, part #16625, installed on my 2005 DC Taco SB. The installation was very simple and straight forward. I installed the system in about 50 minutes start to finish and did not have to lift the truck at all. I did drop the spare tire out of it's stored position which makes removing the stock exhaust easier. I believe the only two tools I used were a 15mm deep well and a 9/16 deep well hooked up to a ratchet. The magnaflow was very high quality stainless steel and the clamps included are top notch. There's only two bolts holding the stock exhaust on, remove those and slip all the hangers out of the rubber mounts. You can now slide the stock exhaust out. I then installed the forward pipe of the magnaflow system, then the muffler, then the tail pipe. I Tightened down the muffler clamps, two flange bolts, and hoisted the spare tire back into position.
Overall I'm happy with the system. The exhaust has a deep tone but does not pop or crackle. Surprisingly, the exhaust is almost silent on the interstate, when cruising, and even at idle. However, when you get on the truck it has a nice growl. The only drawback is that I'm getting some interior resonance around 1500-2200 RPM at low speed. It happens most often when leaving a stop sign and just driving normally. As the truck reaches it's low speed shift points in 2nd and 3rd, the hum from the exhaust inside becomes really noticable. I've actually ordered a resonator from the aeroturbine company that I'm going to have installd just before the muffler. I got the idea from the TRD exhaust systems that I previously owned on my Tundra and 4Runner. Hopefully it will take down the resonance a little.
I got the system from Performcnce Peddler for $390 shipped. here are some pics. The system is 2.5" before the muffler and 3" after the muffler.

Looks good ! I have a magnaflow as well. I'm not sure of the part number of the muffler, I had it welded in the place of the stock exhaust. I just wanted to let you know that Mine does the same thing, and I'm sure almost any fee-flow exhaust has some resonance at that RPM range.
curious if you sense any performance gain, or strictly a sound change??
Also, are you saying you basically just bolted it on with some basic tools at your house??
I'm semi-unclear on why some merely bolt on, while others require welding...

Glad you like your magnaflow. I had them on my mustang and loved them. On this truck, I'll probably just have the muffler welded in and get a nice exhaust tip to save some money

I'm going to try and get a sound clip over the next few days, although the clips from Magnaflow's website are pretty accurate.

The system was completely bolt-on with simple hand tools in my garage.

This is a pretty subjective answer without any hard evidence like a dyno, but here's what I noticed. Prior to my Magnaflow system, I could could go WOT from a stand still with zero tire spin at any shift point. After I installed the system, I was surprised to hear my tires chirping as the tranny shifted from 1st to 2nd gear under WOT. The seat of my pants tells me that the truck is slightly faster and I think my new found tire chirping somewhat backs that claim up. Other than that, I have no way of telling.

Looks good... I just ordered the same setup for my 06 and plan to do the swap myself also. Were you able to get the stock setup out in one piece with no problem without lifting the truck?

Thanks!
I used a little 3in1 oil on the hat at the ends of the hangers to make it easier to slide them off... Easy as pie. The tacoma is high enough to just lay underneath...
2500RPM will give you a head ache with this system.
I went through 5 different cat-back systems on my BMW M3 because of this problem. That's why I'm hesitant to do swap out the exhaust on my Tacoma. Thanks for this write-up. I know that Magnaflow isn't the one for me since I am very picky about the droning noise.
