This is a discussion thread titled "Borla exhaust vs. Other exhause systems", within the Forced Induction Systems forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Does anybody have Borla dual or single exhaust system on their truck? I am going to get exhaust but i am trying to decide whether i should spend the extra money to get the borla because it sounds like such a sweet system?
I have the Borla exhaust on my 2004 Tundra Doublecab. It is a very well made unit, extremely light, bolted on easily, and is holding up well after four years---my friend sold it to me from his 2002 Tundra extra cab after he had it a couple of years! It drones at 2000 rpm and is annoying on the highway at that engine rpm--so I drive it a little above that. I don't know how much it increased power, because I installed that, SS Autochrome headers, TRD Supercharger, and Unichip all at the same time and dynoed the truck at : 323hp and 351 ft/lb torque at the rear wheels. Runs great, holds up fantastic, looks good----seems like a very good exhaust to me.
I have the single outlet on my '04. It has a mellow tone to it - not really that noticable until you floor it, then it sounds awesome. I'd actually like it to be a bit louder at idle and partial throttle.
I did a lot of shopping to find the best price. AJ USA had the best deal about a year ago when I bought it.
I have a TRD 2006 SR5 with the Borla, 1 in 2 out, to rear, and yes it has a drone that is very nasty when giving gas and at 65mph. It came with truck. I had a 2000 limited that I put mandrel bent, true duals with H crossover on with 2 Magnaflows & it was perfect in every way. No loss of power, no drone, and real nice sound. Lifetime warrenty.. I am thinking about switching this one to the Magnaflow system but it is a shame to cut up the new Borla set-up. I am going to try a trick a guy told me worked on his Borla. He changed back to stock air filter instead of Borla one. He said the drone went away on acceleration and much less at speed?? Don't think it will work but it is a cheap test.. Custom Magnaflow system cost $350.00, I will go with a two in two out X crossover pipe in the single muffler set-up this time. Hope this helps your choice there are plenty of posts on this subject to help you decide. Many favor Magnaflows for all around use and best $ value.. I just did the air cleaner back to stock & there is a noticable difference much softer drone almost tolerable, HINT::: if you get stuck where the speed is where the drone is at just push the OD button, changes rpm and drone is gone.
The Borla is too dam loud in my opinion Yea I wanted dual exhaust but driving on the freeway which is 80 percent of the driving I do is becoming a real bare dealing with the Noise.. I am swaping out to something else in the future not sure But Deebs In Colorado is saying magnaflow Is better without the drum noise at 2 rpm on the highways. Ill check his setup when I visit Denver In May..

I have single in, dual out magnaflows with 4" tips..It sounds alright with pretty much no idle sound but that's because the idiots at the place where I got it done at, left the stock toyota muffler on..so I have 2 mufflers on instead of just the one magnaflow..Once I get it off, I think i'll love em..they're already aight now
A lot of friends I've got, hate their Borla's...granted most of them are driving Silverados...but they complain about drone on the highway...and just generally too loud.
As TundraV8Georgia said...I've got a single exit Magnaflow. They did remove both of my mufflers...and replaced it with a single...
Perfect to me...can hear a small rumble at idle...doesn't drone on the highway and growls when you jump on it.

Wow! True duals! Where'd you go? Abbot & Costello's Muffler Shop? Like watching the monkey & the football, huh? That's too funny. Thanks for the grins.

Just got a Gibson installed and I'm hearing the same highway drone @2000RPM as is generally posted here. After the Magnaflow install, did you notice any loss of low-end torque? I've heard that can happen if the pipe/muffler aren't the proper size, etc. I want low-end, and so was curious how the Magnaflow performed, they are right in the next town over from me.
Gibson did as it said it would, power seems best right from about 1800-3000 RPMs.
Thanks...

I have had 4 4x4 Tundras. Two 2000's, one 2005, and now a 2003. All ACs with the V8. It seemed that the ones with the best power were the two 2000's with a cat back Magnaflow into side exits. I hated the 2005 double cab with that junk 5 speed transmission. I sold it with less than 4K miles on it. I just replaced it with a 2003 AC limited 4x4. The 2003 has a Volant air intake and the dual Borla stainless exhaust. On this truck the Borla is pretty quiet and the intake can be heard during lift-off. But for some reason the truck is a dog off the line and just in general, much less power then the 2000s. I don't think the aftermarker add-ons did anything for performance. I don't get the drone with the Borla like mentioned in the other posts. I just think the add-ons are a waste of your cash. If they didn't come with the truck, I would not have bought them. Time they go in the trash.
