Default Exhaust system: Lost of power after installing Cut-outs

I’m trying to gain as much power as possible with out altering the engine (but the exhaust). I’ve installed a set of SS Chrome Headers (I think I’ve gain power but not sure). I have also installed a set of Exhaust Cut-Outs on each side of the exhaust. The cut-outs are for my personal option of a quiet or loud exhaust. In theory the cut-outs should make no difference (they are 2” and are installed on the Y pipe). I have one side of the cut-outs set to stock muffler and the other side to no pipes. The cut-outs are placed about five to eight inches from the CAT. I feel no difference when in stock muffler but when I switch to no pipes, the power drops dramatically.

Why is the power lower when there is no pipe? Do I need some pipe after the cut-outs for back pressure, if so how much?

Here is a picture of the Cut-outs

Thanks
Alex

you answered your own question, no back pressure plus the ECU does not learn that quick.

Something like that is more effective on a supercharged or turbocharged engine. Our engines crave back pressure until the rpms are really high. With a forced induction engine it needs to expell those gases as quickly as it can considering the intake charge is under pressure. Only then, a cut out would be effective.

Sorry buddy. Just get a supercharger and you'll be in good shape
