This is a discussion thread titled "Magnaflow muffler or complete exhaust system", within the Forced Induction Systems forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
What is the bennifit of installing the complete Toyota Tundra Cat-Back Exhaust System (600.00) vs just installing the Magnaflow muffler on to the stock exhaust system? (100.00)
I bought the Banks Cat back for my 05 DC. Really didn't notice any change in MPG or in power, it just sounds better. In retrospect, I wish I would have just had a Magnaflow or flowmaster installed and saved about $400.
Good luck!
the stock pipe is stainless and the proper size... when u go aftermarket then the pipe is either to small or big causing loss of power... so just change th muffler and also take off the resonator because that restrics some too if u keep it on.... do some searches on here for this they all will say the same
yeah it worked that time, sounds good. is it a little throatier than stock on accelleration? that is same thing i was going to do since you gain very little with full exhaust. just dont know if i should lose the resonator or leave it
I liked how the truck sounded without any exhaust.

All of the aftermarket exhaust systems out there use exhaust tubing that is larger in diameter than your stock exhaust tubing is. This causes your engine to make less low end torque and so it feels less powerful off the line. The magnaflow muffler is also cheaper than buying a whole new exhaust system.

no need to waste money on a cat back if the factory system is fine i would get a muffler and a tip buy a intake with the money saved then fill up the truck with whats left
I just (150 miles ago) put on the Magnaflow 22" muffler & left the resonator on. It souds great! Throaty, a bit louder, but no drone. I notice a bit more power, but it may just be my imagination. I'd suggest the muffler & tip.
