This is a discussion thread titled "Flowmaster Exhaust question", within the Forced Induction Systems forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I've been looking at the Flowmaster Model Number 17425. The price is right, but I'm not sure how it will sound on my 2006 Tundra DC 2WD. Any comments or suggestions?
I have them on both my 05 quad 4x4's and I really like them. I was told when I was having them put on that I would hear it in the truck with the windows up and yes I do but it's cool. You will like them!
They tend to perform marginally in magazine flow / hp tests. Dynomax is typically better.
Really, anything is typically better than Flowmaster for performance- Dynomax, Borla, Magnaflow, whatever. But Flowmasters sound awesome, and since you're not really gaining much performance anyway with a muffler, he might as well go with the Flowmaster.

OETOY,
Do you ever get over to Orlando? I'd like to hear this exhaust first hand.
I had a Flowmaster cat-back installed on my '94 Wrangler. I had it Y'd out to make a dual exhuast. It had a throaty sound, but wasn't too loud...something I was grateful for. It siginificantly increased my mpg and gave me the low end torque I was looking for. You don't want the system to be too loud...maybe YOU do. You will be very happy with Flowmaster if you choose their product. I knew people who purchased Gibson exhausts and it sounded lousy and I believe they had a decrease in power. Borla makes an excellent exhaust system too, but they can be very pricey and the sound in a bit overwhelming. You want to be able to enjoy the ride.
I purchased a 50 Series SUV Performance Flowmaster Muffler with 2 1/2" Mandrel Bent Pipes and 45 degree stainless tips for about $300 on e-bay.
I can't wait to install it, but I have to say, I'm a little nervous. I hope it sounds like the audio clips that Flowmater has on their website for this muffler. I'll keep this thread updated.
I installed the exhaust this past weekend. It took about 2 hours, but I purposely took my time to make sure I installed it correctly. Removing the existing exhaust was a breeze. I cut about 3 inches off of the existing pipe and clamped on the flowmaster muffler. All hardware was included with this kit. The twin tail pipes fit the truck perfectly and I had the stainless steel tips welded on. It looks cool!
The sound is exactly what I was looking for. It is not overwhelming in the cab and sounds great at lower RPMs. On the interstate I can barely hear it, except when I give it a lot of gas. Not bad for $300 off ebay.
It was a knockoff kit. The pipes were not stainless and it was not a bolt on kit. Besides that, it looks the same. The seller on e-bay is magnumexhaust.
Why spend that much on a knockoff could have bought the mffler and had a shop fab you a custom system for that maybe a little more but not much, depending on if you shop around for the muffler
The TRD exhaust for the 07 Tundra is made by Borla. I have always been very happy with Borla products.
