Forced Induction SystemsDetailed discussions regarding cold-air intake systens, superchargers, turbo chargers, and other induction systems for your vehicle.
This is a discussion thread titled "New Exhaust", within the Forced Induction Systems forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I just installed my new TRD Exhaust on my '06 DC SB and I have to admit I'm impressed with the added response of acceleration. I'm thinking of seriously ordering the TRD air intake but I've heard they are terribly loud and somewhat annoying. Is there anyone out there that can validate that for me? I don't want to buy something that turns out to be a nuisance to me.
BTW – I have my stock exhaust sitting in my garage if anyone is interested. I’ve used it a total of about 3500 miles.. Don’t think I’ll be needing any longer.
How about the urd cold air intake, sits wright behind the grill, less noise and they say better performance, cheaper price also!!! - Underdog Racing Development
Also, another factor. I see that you live in Florida, unless you are stomping the gas or going up hills, the intakes really arent that loud, plus, they are easy to get used to for the added poser.
If you can handle the exhaust note, then you will have no problems with the TRD Intake. It roars when you get on the gas, but other than that it's not that bad. It takes a couple hundred miles for the intake noise to settle down. You'll be happy you did it.
I just installed the TRD intake and love it. Yup, when ya step on it ( as Flat Spot says ) it roars!! However, it's a little more subtle than the K & N I took back. Along w/ the Headers and TRD exhuast, my Taco really gets up an goes!!
As far as that URD one, I agree, the colder the air along w/ better flow will increase performance. I would just be concerned about keeping it clean. Imagine following your buddies off-road, that thing would suck the dust and dirt right in. An enclosed box, IMHO, is the way to go in most applications.
Now if your talking "Street" use only...here we have it...'05 X-Runner w/ supercharger and the CIA:

just wondering....if you installed the trd exhaust..would it void the warranty of the vehicle..

I don't really think so. They might give you a little bit of a hard time depending why you’re in for service. But if you stand your ground and point out that it is a Toyota product you put on and not a third party vendor (like a custom flow master exhaust) they would almost have to honor it. It's only a two bolt ordeal, how much can you screw up putting that on? IMO
The TRD exhaust on my '07 was purchased and financed with the vehicle (double cab prerunner, speedway blue, Blutaco by name), is covered under the vehicle warrantee and it 50 state legal. I later ordered the TRD cai and specifically asked the service department about it and they said not too worry about the warrantee. It was not that radical of a change that it would affect anything in the engine. If however the O2 sensor went bad it would not be covered by warrantee but he didn't see that as something that would happen. I went ahead and installed it and am very happy with it. Not much if any intake noise until you punch it and then the complete system comes on song and YEEEE HAW!
My wife says "what ever!" but then at age 60 you gotta get your kicks where you can!!

I cant tell the difference in noise until I put my foot in it!!
