This is a discussion thread titled "Exhaust and Lights Question?", within the Forced Induction Systems forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
First off.... I would like some of your guys input on running straight pipes from the cats back. I've got the Borla Duel exhaust already but was wondering if I should keep the resonator in or take that off as well. I'm here in Florida so we don't really get any type of safety checks so I'm not really worried about not having a muffler. If I do end up getting in trouble I was thinking about putting a glass pack in there. I don't want to throw anything off in the computer since I'll probably be giving this truck back in 2 to 3 years but would like it to sound mean while I have it. Also, would this void any part of my warranty... I would think only if something broke because of what I did to the exhaust.
Second question is has anyone put any of the black/clear light covers on the taillights. My buddy just put some on his black truck and they look really nice. Just curious.
Thanks for any input

I would say leave the resonator on. My friend took off his resonator after his attempts to make his own exhaust failed (he is not the sharpest tool in the shed). Well anyway, over here BSO has pulled him over numerous times and issued tickets for excessive noise...alot of tickets. Plus this thing is loud you can hear it coming from a mile away, you might think this is great, but it sounds like sh!t. Nevermind that you can not have a coversation in the car.
For the covers for the tail lights, black outs, my buddy put some on his ranger. He loved them untill he did some off-roading and mud got behind the black out. He really noticed it after he washed his truck, sometimes after he finished washed his truck a muddy streak would run out of the bottom. The only way he could clean it was to take them off every time. After some time he ended up just keeping them off. However, they did look great in his truck since it was black.
I ran mine in college for a few years with nothing past the resonator. It was very very loud. I loved it, but once I put the DVD player in, I couldn't hear words in the movies. To hear what it sounds like, take the clamp off that is between the resonator and muffler and slip the muffler off.

I tried undoing the clamp between the resonator and the muffler but couldn't get it to budge. I think I'm going to put some thread buster on it and try it in a little while.
Also, do you know if this voids any kind of warranty?

Hmm, I do not remember exactly how I did it, but I know it worked and I could clamp it back on whenever I needed. I know I changed the bolt type to a wingnut so i could take it off and on without tools.
I was worried about the warranty for a while too. At first, I put it back on when I took the car in for service, but one time I limped in with a leaf spring problem and they didn't seem to care about the noise so I left it off from then on without comment. If they do say anything, tell them it came loose when you were driving, they will prob. just put it back on for you.

So I expect that the pipe between the resonator and muffler isn't welded onto each other. Thanks again.

my resonator was welded on my 2002 AC. i cut it off w/ a cutting wheel and then welded in a 1ft segment of pipe in its place. it didn't make it too much louder, just a little more throaty. i don't see why anyone would get any tickets b/c of it....the "noise" isn't too much different, and it definitely doesn't sound like you're running just straight pipes from the exhaust manifolds.
future mods: SOS rollpan, Hellwig sway bar, SOS sway bar bushings, turbocharger, big brake conversion for front, SOS rear disc brake conversion, and many more.....
I posted some pics of the TRD Dual Exhaust for the 07 Tundra with the 5.7. See the link in my sig
