Default Exhaust Dilemma

I just purchased a 07 Tacoma and I am looking into getting an aftermarket market exhaust. I talked to my local AERO dealer and gave me a few suggestions. He told me not to go with anything larger than a 2.5” exhaust. They have supercharged 3.4 all decked out and they still use a 2.5” exhaust. They say that you lose all of you low end power if you go to a 3”. Should I take their word for it….they seem like a creditable source. l

if you go outside of the TRD mod's, I think you void the warranty on your whole exhaust system. I would suggest sticking to Toyota parts, unless you don't mind losing part of your ownership rights. Good luck with your decision.

Sorry, this is just a cat back system...that will not void the warranty

I put an Magnaflow muffler and all ss pipes on my tacoma...i do have 3.5" tips-- I have not felt any difference in terms of losing power...I was told anything above a 3.5" will hurt some.

the issue is the spare tire and the place i got mine done...they had never done it-- needless to say mine was the guniea pig and will forever be it unless the owner decides to take the spare off...

I like it- everyone says it sounds great for a V-6. And reguardless to what others say- I have seen about a 1mpg increase...obviously not the first tank because I hit it hard to hear it and what not

Overall- go with what you think looks the best

I have the TRD, love it! I have heard good things about Borla and Magnaflow, both seem to be a little louder than the TRD. The Gibson cat-back SUCKS!

I would like to hear your Aero Dealer "PROVE" his statement.
Exhaust scavenging isnt what it used to be,late model FI engines in daily drivers wouldnt know if they had it ,muchless lost it.
Ask him if he's willing to argue Dyno-Jet pulls sheets with his opinion ?The real world data tends to shut the "tech bulletin" readers up pretty quickly.
Be patient and the aftermarket will catch up pretty fast with the new Toyota platform(s)MagnaFlow sound decent on most anything, but overpriced since they hit the market ten or so years ago.
DOHC motors run different and therefore sound completly differnt then a push-rod motor(its all in the fireing order)Your overall sound is determined by exhaust "pulses"Borla is the worst about being "gurgly and raspy"Primary reason GM stopped them after 98 on the LS-1 F-Body platform(s)

What you hear in the cab isnt what is heard from your tailpipes

Just curious -- what issues do you see with the Gibson system? I had a full Bassani system on an F150 and was thrilled with it aside from the in-cab resonance. I pulled the Bassani muffler for a Gibson and it was night and day and I still had the performance.

Is it the fit & finish, the sound, or the performance that's an issue with the Gibson cat-back system on a Tacoma?

My friend has it on his 01 Tacoma, I don't like the way it sounds, sorta rice rocketish. I have heard other early gen Tacoma's with different exhaust that sound much better. Just my oppinion though.

Hey, opinion is what I'm looking for and sound counts just as much as anything else where exhausts are concerned. Thanks for the input.

I installed a CAT back exhaust on my 02 @ 2.5 piping with a super 40 flowmaster. All I noticed was heads truning when I drive by and an increase in power. I stayed with 2.5 because I recieved the same counsel concernig loss of low end torque.

Good Luck. I hope it sounds great.

BANKS POWER uses a 2.5" up to the muffler with 3" followed to the end... I'll let you know what it turns out... I have at 24" magnaflow right now in exchange from my stock muffler... Very quiet and deep (sounds like the TRD) yet you get the extra performance for half the price..
