Default Magnaflow exhaust

hey everyone,

i just wanted to reiterate what everyone has been saying. just be patient and wait for products to come out for the new tundras. i just had a magnaflow installed and i absolutley hate it... infact i went to the muffler shop i went too and had them order a flowmaster (probably another mistake) and they were too busy to help me out... so i unbolted my muffler from the cat's. sounds damn good that way too btw... but if anyone can learn from someone's mistake:

if you're looking for a loud throaty exhaust do not go with magnaflow (i was dupped by the stupid salesman... they must be in cahootz with magnaflow or something)

if you want a reserved but grumbly 2000-2500rpm then magnaflow should please you well.

If you want that redneck sound then get a cherry bomb. Dont blame your muffler shop cause you didnt do your research. I read and read and read about exhaust and finally i realized what i wanted. Magnaflow was the way for me. I love how it sounds stock on the highway but mean when you step on it. Buy 2 cherry bombs and dump it a little past the cab. Happy popping

I went with a "custom made" setup using two Flowmaster 40's with an H-Pipe. The truck is now true dual exhaust all the way back. I did talk to the shop about the Magnaflow but he said it wouldn't give the deep rumbling tone that I wanted or was used to. I think the total was $475 (they normally do $375 with a single muffler and no H-Pipe). I used 4" round, rolled tips that are about 12" long.

Thoughts:
  • It's quieter than my Dad's old '05 4.7 liter Tundra that had one Flowmaster 40 to two pipes, and a bit deeper in tone.
  • It's about the same as my '03 F150 with a single 40 and dual pipes.
  • My '04 Avalanche with a single 40 was deeper but also louder.
The setup I have seems to be the PERFECT volume and tone. It's deep without being overly loud. When you're on the freeway you don't even know its there. Around town its nice and deep and wouldn't bother anyone. I GTech'd the truck before and after the exhaust and it was a 6.6 to 60mph both times. With the Flowmasters it was a lower 6.6 but this is too close to be a difference. Keep in mind I wasn't looking to gain 3-5hp which I think is meaningless. I worry about that type of gain or loss in my Corvette...

So I probably gain 0hp but that sound.......oh that sound!!

I have the Magnaflows and love them. I'm not sure which mufflers I have, but there are two of them, 2-1/2" SS pipe all the way, 24" tips angled behind the rear wheels. Much more subtle than my 6.0 liter Chevy with a similar setup, but I really like the sound. To each his own, I guess.
