Default mileage change with a leveling kit and 33s

Hey guys I have an 08 Tundra Crew Max and I'm thinking of doing the toytec leveling kit along with 22in wheels and 33in tires. I often make 3 hour trips so the gas mileage is kind of a big deal. So what changes should I expect to see around town and on the highway. Any info is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Good question and welcome to the forum.

By leveling I am assuming you are going to raise the front end? My understanding of this is that it will increase your frontal area thereby creating more drag. How much of an increase over the stock size tires are the 33's? Here is a calculator, courtesy of the good folks at Discount Tire, Tire Size Calculator - Discount Tire Direct This will help you to determine how the different size tires will affect your mileage on the highway. Larger tires will kill your in-town mileage but help highway mileage. The advantage of larger tires on the highway may be offset by the increased drag from the larger frontal area from the leveling kit.

Thanks Highaylizard I'll take that into consideration. You actually made me think of another question. If I lift the back equally this would keep the lines of the truck and should keep the resistance the same right or am I way off on this?

Actually no. Lifting the front and rear will still increase the frontal profile and increase your drag. Sorry to rain on your parade. One way to look at this is to draw the truck's silhouette from the front starting from the ground up. The higher up your truck sits the larger the frontal profile and the more drag.

I have the Bilstein 5100 lift and 275/70/18 tires, which are about 33.5" tall mounted on the truck. My hiway mpg dropped about 1.5 mpg due to the tire being wider and heavier.

Is this with taking into account the change in tire diameter as well?
