ADDITIONAL FACTORY FOG LIGHT SWITCH IN 2000-2001 TOYOTA TUNDRAS WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

Through all my trials and tribulations with the Fog and Cargo Light mods/circuitry, I did end up adding another factory Fog Light Switch in the Clutch Start Cancel position. If you have the V6 engine, with manual transmission, you actually have the Clutch Start Cancel Switch, and can't do this mod. If you have an empty switch position, with OR without the DRL's, you can add this switch.
The Fog Light Switch (Toyota P/N 84160-0C010) was $33.25 from Carson Toyota. You also need a special female connector to mate to the new factory Fog Light Switch. The connector set (Metra P/N 71-1761) came as a pair, with another bigger connector and cost $15. I was able to find the male connectors at AutoZone and Checker Autoparts, but neither had the female. I located the female connector set at Soundwerks http://www.soundwerks.com here in Phx. A web search for car audio/stereo connectors may yield cheaper prices, as this turns out to be a common connector for older Toyota factory stereo installations.

Be aware, you'll need to move one of the pins/wires in the connector to the correct spot in order to mate to the new Fog Light Switch. The connector has 6 pins of which 5 are used with the "stereo" and only 4 with the fog light switch. The connector comes with 5 wires attached, but the fog light switch really only uses 4, despite the fact that there are 5 pins visible on the back of the factory Fog Light Switch. The extra one is to illuminate a second bulb within the switch, but is not used/installed in the OEM config. If you look at the side of the switch, you will see the tiny light bulb positions. You can unlock the little bulb or the blank bulb cover with a small flat blade screw driver. Yes, it would be possible to wire the extra bulb position, but the light would only be visible at night. All of these comments make much more sense with the switch and connector in front of you.
To get the new Fog switch to seat all the way down in the Fog/Dimmer cluster, you will have to cut another indexing slot, as is shown in the photo. I used the fine saw and nail file in a Swiss Army knife to cut the slot.
The switch is single pole-single throw and is back-lit, like the other Fog Light switch. When you wire the switch in, just connect the appropriate wires from the new connector to the green and green/white wire on the existing Fog Light Switch. Now the new switch will be back-lit through the dimmer circuit, too. You are making a parallel connection into the dimmer circuit, and this presents no problems at all in terms of current drain, etc., as the light is tiny,
You should be left with 3 wires coming from the back of the new connector. Pins 3 and 6, (which corresponds to the green/black and red/yellow wire (respectively) on the factory Fog Light Switch if you have DRL's) or (which corresponds to the green/red and red/yellow wire (respectively) on the factory Fog Light Switch without DRL's) are the actual switched leads. The extra wire is left hanging or removed, unless you want to do something with the other little light in the switch.
This mod certainly turns out to be expensive for just the benefit of another switch, but it looks sharp. You can now use your new switch for anything...another set of fog/auxilliary lights, Cargo Light mod, DRL mod, control a relay, etc.
