rxbike have you gotten any sh*t from your local PD or any cops in general using the windshield mounted GPS? I find it pretty funny that windshield mounts are illegal in CA but they are sold with virtually all GPS units when you buy them. I've been using my Treo for GPS with it's windshield mount for trips to unknown territory and haven't had any trouble with the law enforcement yet. I wonder if they even care if it's for GPS use.
Anybody have any experience with the Mio Digi Walker c520? 4.3 inch screen, nice sleek looking thin bodied unit. Reviews have been very good. I've seen them priced as low as $340.

So far so good. I think that they are too busy handing out tix for other offenses like DUI and sorts that unless I got pulled over for something, I don't think they will do much. Besides, in the corner slot it is least intrusive. My Lowrance unit does come with a steel circular plate with double sided tape to stick on my dash in the event I need to dash mount the suction cup device.
I've had a Garmin NUVI 660 hardwired in my previous car. Still debating where to hardwire the 660 in the Tundra. Has anybody tried Pro Clips as an alternative to the suction cup method?

The problem with Mio is the lack (so far) of map updates. My Mio 310x works great but some PIO's and newer streets are definitely missing. Figure on spending at least $100.00 once the map updates come out. They were due out in spring of 07....still waiting. GPS is a great extra for any vehicle i am discovering....need gas.....no problem. Hungry?...all the food joints are listed...movies? ....what do want to see.
I like the portable units because say you are in a restaurant and want to catch a movie at the closest theater....it knows where you are at and maps your next step. Perfect for bar hopping if that's your thing.
