Garmin? Tomtom? Cobra? Any experience and/or recommendations out there? (A lot cheaper than retrofitting an in dash unit to an 01, plus you can take it with you to another vehicle).![]()

I might be a bit biased but I would stick with Garmin. I used to work for the FAA (the people that put up the WAAS system) and I worked with the WAAS product team. We had close contact with most of the the major vendors and Garmin was always a leader in new technology. Their map database is one of the best. Just my humble opinion.

Any particular model? Garmin is the unanimous recommednation over on www.corvetteforum.com also, but lots of different models. I need something easy to read (see age in profile) and don't need Bluetooth (in fact I don't even know what Bluetooth is)
Garmin has a rather large line of units. Each has features that you may or may not like. Right now I'm liking the Nuvi line. The Nuvi350 might be a good choice. I have the Nuvi 360, which does have Bluetooth. Bluetooth is great if you have a cell phone that also has bluetooth. With this combo, you can have a hands free coversation through the Nuvi. You push a button on the Nuvi to answer and it has a built in mic and speaker so that you can just talk away without holding a cell phone to your head. Much safer.
I would suggest you try and review as many of the different models as possible. Circuit City usually has many models on display. See which line have the features (or size to read) to fit your needs. Good luck with whatever you choose!

I did much research and bought a Garmin Nuvi 660.
It has some nice features but like Justme said, shop around.
Drink more. It probably won't help you understand better, but it just might, and that's a chance worth taking....

I bought a Navman F20, it was a refrurb unit on Buy.com. I paid about $170 shipped for it. I like it for how little it cost me. Its pretty accurate and easy to look up points of interest. So far it has pulled up all the store addresses I have looked up while running around town doing shopping. I know the whole Los Angeles, Orange County, Riverside County area pretty good already, so only got it to help me get thru some areas I have never been before, or help when I take side streets to get around freeway traffic.

Well, I found that Overstock.com: Online Shopping Bedding, Furniture, Electronics, Jewelry, Clothing & more has a really good price on the 350 and that's all the bells and whistles I need. We'll see. Thankx all.
Also just found out that Amazon.com: Online Shopping for Electronics, Apparel, Computers, Books, DVDs & more actually has an even lower price -- for anyone else following after me!
A perfectly adequate unit, only beef is that the display is hard to read in bright light, through polarized lenses. But then again that's true of the Sequoia instrument panel so...![]()
