This is a discussion thread titled "Just bought an E7006. Now what?", within the GPS and Navigation Assistance forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
just bought an E7006 off ebay. It incudes the map discs, and the gps antenna. I am going to try and install it in the wife's 2007 Sequoia with JBL. So I have a TON of questions:
1) Can I use the same brackets the radio has?
2) What do I have to do to get it wired for an ipod? Can I just buy a wire somewhere?
3) I want to hook a backup camera as well. I would prefer one that just plugs in. Which one should I buy & where is the can I get it?
4) Anything else I don't know?
Thanks in advace!
I don't have any personal experience with the '07 Sequoia but I suspect it is the same as the '06 Tundra. If it is, it would be an very easy install. You would use the same brackets that are on your current radio (which may need to be very slightly trimmed). If like the '06 Tundra, they should have the reverse sensor and speed sensor wires already run to the back of your radio to use with the nav unit. The antenna can be mounted under the dash and works well there. You can get an Eclipse bec105 or bec106 reverse camara and it would be plug and play. I suggest ebay to find one but can we had locally at Circuit City. I know there are a couple of ipod solutions but I don't have one so can't reply as to which ones. Hope this helps.
P.S. I hope you have the JBL sound system or you have other issues!

1) The same brackets should hold the E7006.
2) Check Scosche, Metra, PIE, etc for the ipod interface device ($200) that will connect to the CD-changer input.
3) Check the forums for the existing cameras (and part number) that will 'plug-in'.
4) If you don't have the correct amplifier in you car, you will not receive turn-by-turn route guidance. The premium amplifier is necessary to hear the voice prompts.
I hope that fits for you, I purchase a JBL unit out of an 07 for my 06 DC and it was too big for the dash. It as about a quarter inch too big around the face plate. I ended up buying one from an 05 to fit. There is a company caller Integration Solutions on ebay that will have the ipod hook ups that you need. His name is Bryan and he is pretty good.
Hope it work for you somehow.
by the way could I ask what you paid for the 7006????
How did the install go ? Does the E7006 have Blue Tooth ?

Hello. The E7006 doesn't have BlueTooth.
The amp does matter as far as the turn-on signal goes (E7006 requires the analog amps), however, the voice guidance should work with either amp. I've played around with this a bit and that's what I've found.
On the other hand though, you will probably need to run a twisted pair from the back of the radio to the amp. This will give you the voice guidance if it wasn't already prewired for it. If you need to know which contacts on the nav unit or amp, let me know and I'll try to get the info for you.
Other than that it's a pretty straightforward install. Good luck & enjoy!
I have a 05 Sequoia limited with JBL audio . will the E7006 work for me (plug and play) ?
The above post you mentioned it needs an analog amp, I think the 05 is digital?
If you have the JBL sound system, you have a digital amp. The E7006 is a digital unit. I had one in my 06 Tundra but upgraded it to the E7007 (which does have bluetooth and 4 disk cd/mp3 player). The E7006 does not have bluetooth.

I was told that the 05 and newer have the digital amp.
Not 100% sure at this point.
If you have the JBL sound system, you have a digital amp. The E7006 is a digital unit. I had one in my 06 Tundra but upgraded it to the E7009 (which does have bluetooth and 4 disk cd/mp3 player). The E7006 does not have bluetooth.
If the E7006s use the digital amp, then it is also fully functional with the analogs. I had an '06 E7006 in my 4Runner for a while that I used with my original '03 amp and worked with no problems. The ONLY issue with the analog/digital amps is that with the newer nav systems (Gen 5), only occasionally, the radio & amp won't communicate at turn on, and you will either get no audio, audio at full blast , or you will simply have no control over the volume & fade of the audio. Again, this only happens occasionally (still too much of an annoyance for me). I have experimented A LOT with this, as I have had the E7006, E7007, & currently the E7008 (which I'm selling), along with several different amps (I currently have two analogs & two digital amps at home).
It DOES NOT matter what amp you use with regards to the nav voice. Take a look at the wiring diagrams. The nav voice is routed through a twisted pair (two wires with a shield around them) from the nav unit to the amp. I ran wires from my nav unit and bingo - had the nav voice. Doesn't matter if it's a Gen 4 or Gen 5 nav unit.
The E7006 actually has the software for phone functions, however does not have the hardware built-in for it, therefore making it unuseable. I played around with this too and if you add the bluetooth steering wheel controls it brings up the phone screen. I took a bunch of pics of this and even posted about it (I believe it was on the T-4R website though). I can send you the link if you'd like. You can see what I'm talking about.
The E7006/7/8 are all digital head units. Your '03 amp may even be digital, was it the JBL sound system? Early digital amps did have a problem with the newer digital head units, but I don't recall the exact issue, it never was an issue to me.
Yes, the software for bluetooth is in the E7006. It is totally useless as the hardware is not built into the unit to use it nor have I ever heard of someone being able to add it.

Sorry Cheepyankee, not trying to hijack your thread here. Just want to make sure the most accurate info is given.

Hey Justme - Seriously, I'm not trying to get into a pissing match with you, but just what exactly are you basing your info off of when you say ALL the Toyota JBL amps are digital? You are the first (and ONLY) person I've ever heard say ALL the JBL amps are digital. Everything I've heard on several different websites (T4R, Siennaclub, here, OEMvalue, & several ebay retailers) says the JBL amps (all) up to 2005/2006 (depending on model) were analog. They then changed to digital around that time and is what's used now.
Which makes sense to me and that is actually all I am basing MY info from. Granted, I have never actually taken an o-scope to check the transmission lines (nor will I), so I have no proof to the contrary, and if you don't either, then this may remain unresolved. However, if you have some info you can share to shed light on the subject, I really would appreciate it. I'm sure the others would too.
Now, if you are correct, I'm more than happy saying "Thanks!" for helping me learn something here. But I can't - and won't, just take your word (or anybody else's) over the other info I've found just because the person simply says that they are correct. Please present some proof/insider knowledge/etc to back this up.

Uh, yeah. That is exactly what I said...
Thanks!
