John,
Crutchfield was too expensive for me. I'm guessing you pay that price to say you bought it from an authorized dealer. I saved the $250+ and bought from PowerSellerNYC.com. I paid $735...no tax and no s/h. It took a bit longer to get than I wanted (took about 1 week), but I at least saved a bunch of money. It was a brand new unit, NOT refurbished.
I've heard on avic411.com from people that bought from a non-authorized dealer (and even from ebay)...and Pioneer still warranted their units when they had troubles.

Good luck!

I just got off the phone with John and mentioned I received mine from powersellernyc.com too. Gary I was very happy dealing with them not only did they call back and ask me if I was happy they sent me a follow Up on my experience and this is based In Nyc? Overall Pioneer too has been great I did run into one slight issue the other day with My unit (Z1) during a drive it deceided to shut down and reboot .This was the second time within the last weeks it did that so I called Pioneer directly.Pioneer explained that sometimes this might happen since it's a computer programe but mentioned we will warrenty this if there is any problems on the Hdd Hard drive and in my case that's 3 year's.

UPDATE: Just ordered the AVIC-D3 from PowersellerNYC.com. $729 shipped. I figure I'll get my local stereo shop to order the Pioneer Bluetooth module, Auxiliary jack adapter, PAC SWI-PS Steering wheel interface, Scosche JBL Amp Interface, Pioneer Sirius Tuner and Dash Kit since they're all within the same price range. Might as well give the local guys some business besides the install fee. Anyway, saved $371 over the stereo shop's price and $270 over Crutchfield. Thanks again, Erik and Gary for you're assitance

Congrats - You'll enjoy the unit! You might want to add the iPod cable into the mix as well, if you're doing everything at once. On the D3 it does not require a separate module...just the cable. The cable was cheap (about $15). Even if you don't have an iPod...you may have one some day.
I was against getting an iPod, until 6 months ago. Now I can't live with out it and is actually one of my favorite functions of the D3. It's awesome to have all my music on one device and is always kept in the glove compartment. Just a thought...so you don't have to tear apart your dash again in the future.
Thanks Gary. I think the aux jack adapter is same as the ipod adapter you reference. Erik is now surfing sites to find lower pricing on some of the items i referenced above -- nice of him.
I wish everything would arrive tomorrow!

For all those that are getting the ipod cable, it does work with the iphone for music but not video since the iphone does not support a external video output. On my ipod video, I can output both audio and video and control them via the touch screen on the D3
