Default Portable GPS installation installation pictures and advice

Anyone have pictures showing installation of portable GPS? I see lots of folks with the power cord hanging down from the window, but looking for options on a cleaner install without spending the money for the full GPS head unit. Any ideas would help.

Thank you for the info, I am thinking of mounting on the left and side and running the power cord down and under the dash. Would the power supply reach going that route do you think?

Easily..... in fact.... maybe I will do the same..... I have about 2 feet of slack sitting on the floor.... the cable is 5.4 feet .

BTW..... the mount is a Garmin Friction Mount https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=8100. The great thing is.... I can put the GPS and mount in the glove box when I'm parked.... to avoid theft. I know that some thieves will break in even if you have an empty mount on the dashboard or windshield.... hoping that you just stuck the unit in the glove box.... with my install they would have know way of knowing that I have a GPS in my truck.

You can see pics of my TomTom One XL installed in this thread.

To get it installed there, I had to partially dissasemble the dash & remove the coin holder.

I'm with shadyskins, is its available the friction mount is the way to go. It can be positioned so that it does not block your view through the windshield and can be put in one of the storage areas so you don't encourage theft.

You can install a cig plug under the dash by the fuse box by using a fuse block tap with a inline fuse then route your wire through the pillar and plug it it. simple to remove and you don't have to splice the GPS mfg plug.

You must be using a glue pad, right? It looks like the suction mount, but it won't stick there...at least I can't get mine to stick there.

This is what my mount for the Garmin NUVI 660 looked like before I removed it and went with in-dash Stereo/NAV.
