This is a discussion thread titled "Just bought a Magellan Maestro 4000", within the GPS and Navigation Assistance forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I just bought this unit at BJ's for $299 (considered the 4050 but it was $499 and for $899 I can buy a very good nav head unit from Eclipse or Pioneer instead) and I'm pretty happy with it except for one thing, the included suction base doesn't have enough pivots to be able to mount it unobtrusively around the center console, apparently it was designe for use only on the windshield. Does anyone have any mounting suggestions for this unit apart from the windshield?

I thought about that but since I live in Miami and GPS's are a hot item for breakins I'd like to use something I can take off completely when parking outside my home so as not to let the thieves know there's a GPS in the car. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Magellan website. Magellan GPS I'm thinking about getting something similar for my Garmin, I'm just not sure if I want a heavy weighted object sitting on my dash in case I get in an accident.

I went and bought the weighted friction mount for my GPS (Garmin) and so far it seems to work pretty well. I took some turns pretty quick to see if it would slide and it didn't move. So far, the only downside I found (vs. mounting it on the windshield) is that the screen seems to bounce a little more when driving on uneven surfaces. On the plus side, I can just pick up the GPS & mount and hide it in the center console without it leaving that suction cup mark on the windshield. Also, the suction cup on my GPS sucked. Half the time it would fall off while driving or, I would have to pry it off with my fingernails and then it would actully leave some rubber on the windshield. I've only had it for 2 days, but so far I'm happy.
