This is a discussion thread titled "Eclipse AVN5510 and ESN feature", within the GPS and Navigation Assistance forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I installed the AVN5510 in the truck but haven't activated the ESN yet. I'm worry that what if that CD key goes bad...what would I do? Will a copy of it work in this case?
The cd key is stored in the unit. So unless the unit totally malfunctions, you should be ok. Just dont forget what cd you use for the key. If you are going to make a copy, use the copy as the key.
no, i'm talking about the actual CD that uses to generate the ESN goes bad, not the key stored in the unit. If the actual CD for some reason goes bad..what will/can you do?

Hrmmm, good question. Never thought about the cd going bad. There has got to be a factory service that can bypass this. My manual (6610) says that after the 5th time of trying the cd key and it doesnt work you have to call customer service. Could could also buy another copy of the cd, they should be identical.

I think you just found out what kind of a response you can get as I did several weeks ago when I tried to help out. I learned my lesson from that experience and it won't happen again.

If a combo of all these whizz bangs met their claims you'd have to syphon gas out of your tank every second day and sell the excess horsepower on the third????
Actually it does work. I just tried it. Not a burned copy from the computer, but the same cd from the store. Store copies are stamped from a master cd, and are identical in every way.
