GPS and Navigation AssistanceOEM Car, Aftermarket and handheld navigation discussions.
This is a discussion thread titled "where to buy OEM Nav antenna for 07 Tundra?", within the GPS and Navigation Assistance forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Just like the thread title says, I'm looking for an OEM Nav antenna, or more to the point, just the cable and connector that goes into the nav box. Any ideas or part number?
Are you wanting to make your own cable for the GPS antenna? Whatever you are trying to do, you'll save money simply buying an Eclipse GPS antenna. Works just as well. The Kenwood GPS antennas are the same too, just more expensive.
If you are wanting to build your own and find the part number for the connector & pins for the GPS antenna, let us all know. I've been looking for that as well...
I'm trying to rig an switch so that my passenger can watch dvds on the front screen while driving without losing the functionality of the gps. So does the gps antenna for the eclipse have the same connecting end as that of the OEM?
Yes - the connectors are the same. However, if that is your intention, of course you would have to interrupt the speed signal as well. There is another possible way of doing this. There is a sticky at the top of the GPS & NAV Assistance section. This explains another method which I haven't tried yet, but intend to. Soon.
yeah, I have tried that and it didn't work. It works for nav functionality, but when I connected it, it wouldn't allow me to view video. So that's why I'm trying this out. Ideally, the goal is to have full functionality of everything without having to downgrade firmware. Thanks for the info on the connectors, I'll let you know how it goes.
are you sure there's only one antenna? I am looking on ebay, and there seems to be many different antennas and connectors. I have the factory nav system. Or is it that the eclipse in particular has the same?
How's it going? There's one nav antenna. From 2003 - present I believe, uses the same style connector for the Densos & Fujitsu-Ten nav units in the Toyotas & Lexus.
To get video to work, I'm not so sure you will get it by doing what you are planning on doing. These units (for some freakin reason) use a bus system which allows each component in the system to communicate to each other. I believe you won't be able to get video to work unless you have the DVD player & rear screen, connected to the bus, which will tell the nav unit to allow video to be displayed. I have been playing around with this for a while. I bought a Lexus DVD changer to connect to my E7008 in my 4Runner, but because I don't have the rear screen connected (I have two non-Toyota headrest monitors installed), even though I get the audio from the DVD changer, I can't get the video to display. Others I have spoken to have concurred that that is most likely the reason.
Some of these items like the vaistech & like items may be able to trick it into thinking something is connected to accept video. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.
I've decided to go all aftermarket and not deal with it anymore. It's frustrating and irritating that they have these lockouts. Especially when you have a passenger that can safely operate the nav system, etc.
