Hard drive based navigation, mp3, aac, etc storage. Doubt this could happen, but wifi to automatically download music from a networked computer/storage. Park in the garage and your music is downloaded automatically.

Hooked into passenger seat somehow, so you can USE the navigation when you have a passenger (or a phone book on the passenger seat )

Statistical information (like the scangauge II)

I don't think the current Gen-5 DVD-based system is lame. Similar to what Justme said,it does a very good job of...navigating. I didn't notice any lack of navigation speed compared to the LS460/600 HDD-based systems, and I prep at least 2 or 3 of those cars every week. Sure the LS has media storage and all that cool stuff, but the if we're comparing navigation performance HDD isn't much of an advantage.

Honda can keep their free XM,I worked on my parts manager's '07 Pilot a few days ago and noticed the nav is joystick controlled. I'd rather pay extra for XM and control everything via touchscreen than scroll through menus with a stick smaller than a golf tee.

I doubt we'll ever see an OEM navigation system that will have as many features as an aftermarket system,it'll just be too overwhelming for the average driver. If I were to put my parents in a vehicle with say a Pioneer AVIC,they'll probably have a hard time just trying to turn the radio on. Their '07 GX470 on the other hand, even my dad (who is horrible with technology,he can barely type or use a mouse) can figure out the basics. And it's more aesthetically pleasing than a motorized touchscreen or double-DIN aftermarket unit (wouldn't work anyway since HVAC controls are integrated to the nav/audio system)

Eddie I know you work at a dealership so you gain more access vs most people on this board. I am well aware about the New Ls Hdd based system since I have a coworker with one and Like the system overall . When comparing the Toyota Navi in general it's a no Brainer Toyota isn't a good system Period on there current offering esp JBL sound quality. My retired 2007 Avalon is a prime example you mentioned your Shop Managers Pilot well The avalon (07) has the same deal going for there No refinement whatsoever and a useless system . My dad's 2006 Accord Ex Navi 2 door on the other hand is a very well intregrated system with via touchscreen and Voice rec Features Toyota is just now doing. The overall problem's with Toyota Oem is features They lack advanced Voice rec controls,Xm Navi Traffic and a Hard drive just to name a few . Hdd to me on the other's that have this system have seen the overall benifit's mainly storage /Easy voice rec access on music from Gracenotes Tagging system which Infiniti now has for 2008.
Gracenote: Automotive

HDD isn't much of an advantage (you sure on that)
1. Doesn't have Map's Cd (built In Hdd Unit's) nor lose them (Hdd also doesnt have east and west coast cd edition Cd to swap out either like a dvd based system )
2. Faster Route calculations with Hdd with better POI Try 12 million vs other dvd based system's and Space being limited.
3.Ability to muliti task on Dvd Movie playback and run Navi at the same time plus pause a movie if your turn is approaching to let you know to turn.
4.Justme stated it does a good job on navigation maybe to some degree maybe but very limited on what it does.Toyota locks you out trying to imput stuff ahh No thanks there .His system also didn't have bluetooth at the time (newer tundra does) 07
5.Has a very sexey female voice LOL just kidding had to add that ...

My wife's Magellan reports altitude -- important info in rural Wyoming.

Indeed, I'd pay extra bucks for that feature on my Tundra!
