GPS and Navigation AssistanceOEM Car, Aftermarket and handheld navigation discussions.
This is a discussion thread titled "Looking for a GPS", within the GPS and Navigation Assistance forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I use a portable GPS while at work. I originally got a Garmin because it had good user reviews on bestbuy.com, but I ended up taking it back because the maps were not up-to-date and it was going to cost $130 to update them. I replaced the Garmin with a Mio and I have been very happy with it. Easy to use and the maps are current.
I wouldn't buy a smaller Gps unit sure they are great if you change from car to car but they don't have a Back up camera or Certain features Like XM Navi (some do now)....
I have the Z1 from pioneer has advance voice rec music search hdd Harddrive,XM navi traffic and is much better vs Any JbL Navi system Toyota has ever put into a product.

I had to listen to a few sales people at work complain about not being able to find their way around some cities they dont know, such as Chicago, Detroit, Vegas, etc. Sometimes they even travel up to Canada. One of the direct supervisors was very resistant to them and thought it would be a waste of money. So being the mindful IT guy (instigator for the most part) I talked to the president and told him about the issue. He was all for it, he has his own personal GPS in his car all the time so he understands their ability. The head manager agree so it was ordered that day.
What did I order? The Garmin nuvi 250W, which covers the North America region and has the 4.3" screen. I played around with it and found it very easy to use and pretty accurate. It didnt show the exact location our company is on because its not very well developed, but it was close enough to see the building. From home, I live yet again on a not very well developed court, it was pretty much dead on. If you go a different route then what is given, it automatically recalculates a new path, and very quickly. It definitely tries to reroute you to the main path, which is good for unfamiliar cities. You can set particular intersections you want to go through, which would be good to avoid certain areas of cities, etc that you want to avoid or for way points and stops. Addresses can be saved as favorites. I programmed a few today for a sales persons trip on monday, who isnt too techie but found the unit to be easy to use. I highly recommend it even after just a short time of use. I ordered it through NewEgg, by far the best price I could find.
