Default avic D3 Illumination wire

Does any one know what wire to connect to the units illumination (orange white?) wire to? My colors do not change at night when i turn the lights on, and that thing is very bright at night, even with the brightness turned down.

It connects to your headlight wire.I don't know the color off hand but I'll try and find it for you.

Does it just need a 12v connection to make it run correctly? when i wired in my new glow gauges I remember a green/black maybe green/white wire coming out of the dimmer switch, is that the one i connect it to?

Here you go Look for a green wire in the driver's kick panel. It can also be found coming out of the fuse box.Tap the illumination wire to the green headlight wire and when you cut your lights on the screen will darken.Thats it !!

One last thing, im also going to do the bypass. found the instructions on avic411, but how do you actually move the wire in the harness. ive done wiring, but never messed with the harness. is there a special tool to get the wire out and back in, without breaking it or will a small screwdriver force it out and back in? THANKS!

Wasn't the green wire in the harness Erik!! i did that and it stayed in night mode all the time. hooked it up to the orange white in the harness...imagine that orange white to the orange white!! it was even stamped on there positive illumination, or something like that. verified with a volt meter.

Question on the bypass, my mute wire was not connected to anything... the end of it just has plug thing, but not hooked up at all. so i didn't do the bypass the full way. couldn't get that white plug out, to get to the mute pin. but thats ok i hooked the parking break up to the ground, so i don't have to engage it anymore. still help full in its own.

the cell mute wire isn't connect to anything thus why you remove it from it's pin and add to another Pin for the 2 wire bypass. All your doing is removing something you don't use on your navi and using that as grounding the wire out..
