GPS and Navigation AssistanceOEM Car, Aftermarket and handheld navigation discussions.
This is a discussion thread titled "Avic Z1/Z2 firmwave updates Instructions..", within the GPS and Navigation Assistance forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
There have been a few complaint's about the Z1/Z2 owners about there navigation unit rebooting during driving since it's Hdd Based (harddrive). The problem was first noticed when I received my unit back in Sept 06. I have contacted Pioneer Tech surport and went into a lot of detail resolving the problem. Pioneer has a patch surport and I highly advise Ts member's to receive this Update.
Right now I am helping a Ts member get his Z2 on his crewmax from the same problem's my unit once had. I'll post some picture showing the update's on the Navi screen and what to look for in your service screen menu to insure you have the lastest updates.
Cheer's Erik..

I haven't experienced the problem myself, but I'll take your word on it. Unfortunately, the link doesn't work.
Well asianflava is having those issues he is from Austin Texas and Just moved to Georgia. Im helping him with these issues since he is coming over.. I'll post details within a few hour's on service screen information and what to look for.
This is the correct link I beleive it's working let me know?
If the manufacture date of your Z2 is after April 07 then you have the latest Firmware with the locking and freezing issues resolved.

depends from Calling tech surport some of those updates didn't apply on a few batches and of coarse they didn't provide a cut off date so Im unsure about April 07 being a guideline.
This is what i found out today
The Z1 will have the fireware patch starting off with a 1.0000 and if this update was applied it would be 1.0500 or something like that.
The Z2 will have the firmware patch starting off with 2.0000 and if this update was applied it would be 2.0700..
This picture just taken now show's the older fireware and will be updated when I receive the patch from Pioneer and apply this to his 2007 Tundra Crewmax.I do know that my Updates which was for a Z1 will not Update the Z2 even thought it does not state that on the manual. I did call Pioneer before i tryed to load the updates and they insured it would work but it didn't and I called back and will be having the Cd sent out to my home and installed on his Crewmax.

Nero should work fine. You could also try the free version of Roxio the defaults seem to work well with all the data disks I created for my Z2
Background images, CDDB...

I'm downloading the Gracenotes and NAV firmware update right now. I'll see if I can burn it and load it into the NAV shortly and report back how I did it in Nero.
Be sure you are doing the following:
I can't get my unit to work on the updates just say cd-reading and stops.
There seems to be some confusion as to how to check your software version currently installed in your Z1/Z2. I'll give pictures to show what you should be seeing. This is done on my Z2, but you do the same thing on the Z1. You will just see different numbers displayed.
First you need to get to the service info screen. Follow these steps:
Press the “MENU” key
Select the “Settings” tab
Select “Hardware”
Select “Service Info Screen”
You should now see the following screen:
Touch and hold the top left corner of the screen:
Then you will see this new screen pop up and it will show you the software version on your unit:
that doesn't work on Mine try it allready..
Erik
mine show this screen only will Not pop another screen like u suggested???

My updates took today for gracenotes had a friend burn them on his mac.look's like i am going to be doing some updates to the New Z3 firmware since pioneer updated again from the older z1 and z2 however
The z3 is the same unit with new features..
