GPS and Navigation AssistanceOEM Car, Aftermarket and handheld navigation discussions.
This is a discussion thread titled "Need some help on my AVN5435....", within the GPS and Navigation Assistance forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
so i hooked up everything correctly including the speed sensor wire but am still getting the message, "check speed pulse" on the screen. Am sure the wire to the vehicle speed sensor is connected properly.
Why is it still showing this message?
Also, i checked the system check up screen and when the car is moving, the speed pulse does show the speed accurately for the most part. Isn't this an indication that the speed wire is connected? If the speed wire is not connected, would the speed in the system check not show zero since it wouldn't know car is not moving?
But the info under it, i think it is the speed pulse or so still shows "studying". isn't it supposed to show "completed" by now?
Also, i don't turn by turn when am driving. the system just starts the guidance and says nothing until i get to the end and it says your destination is reached or so.
I have the disc version 1.2 if that helps.
please advise.
i had the avn5495(hard drive) in the past and used the same speed sensor connection as am using now and all was fine.
please advice
It could still be a speed/pulse issue if the voltage on that connection is low. Or, it really is still studying. Are you getting a full GPS signal?
Disc version 1.4 and higher uses GPS only for turn-by-turn and the speed/pulse is not needed. The newer version disc may solve your problem.

thanks,
i just confirmed that i hooked the speed sensor wire to the wrong wire.
on my car it is in a set of two rows of wire where the top wires are identical to the bottom. i will rehook it and give an update. But am anxiously awating the update disc from u to see if there is any improvement in the update.
besides the bypass on the speed sensor requirement, what is the major noticeable difference from the 1.2 to the 1.4 and then to the current one?
Version 1.4 has the firmware upgrade. Versions 2.1 and 2.2 are basically just map and POI upgrades.
The details of the firmware changes were discussed in this thread:
hooked on the wire to the correct wire and all is good now.
one thing though, am not sure but the nav voice seems to be coming from the rear speaker. isn't it supposed to come from the driver side front speaker?
going to make sure tomorrow, maybe its just my ears.
Yep, It should come from the front driver side.I have the 5435 Eclipse as well.Double check your L/R balance and fade controls. You probably have your wires hooked up incorrectly.
