i set my little disk on top of one of those 3 dollar Pilot Coffe mugs that fit tightly in my center console and it works nice, sorry no pictures but it is low tech and works and is easy to move to other cars/trucks! illegal in Cal for window mount i think! it has no issues with reception where i have it! if you leave any indicator that you have a GPS in your truck it will be broken into in ABQ and most other towns! price of repairs more than unit!!

Windshield Mount Law
this is what i read but CHP might not have issue with it? i would think leaving the mount and unit on windshield would only get yourself a broken window and a stolen GPS which i am sure insurance would probably not cover the GPS but might cover the window!
I like mine down low where it does not distract me too much! i just tune it to radio and turn volume up if i am lost!

Wow! didn't know that! thanks for the link. Probably better to be safe than sorry. I don't plan on leaving the unit in the truck but remove it at the end of the day. I'll have to look at some other options for mounting it.

this is similar to what i use but it is plastic not stainless, ya just get the round circle disk that ya use to mount the thing to the window and stick it to lid on coffee mug and attach it to the top of mug! works good in center console or any cup holder mount!

Here is what I used: ProClip Mounting System *-*Choose Your Country

I'm real happy with it too. It's not up on the dash or windshield for everyone to see and it's easy to reach!
Hope this helps someone.

Later...

Oh by the way I have a Garmin Street Pilot C550.

I have a Nuvi 200 and I just put the regular suction cup mount right near the top left of the windshield.. It works GREAT! The suction cup has never fallen, and mounting it right there keeps it right in your line of sight with the road. (I don't have to look down at the cupholder to look at it)
It is also well within my reach there (vs a $30 dash mount).
I've found that the driver's handle on the a-pillar that is right near it gives my left hand a "steady anchor" to rest my hand on if I am making any adjustments with the unit's display/ features. I think it works perfectly there. Very out of the way, and it does not take up any valuable real estate.
I am always VERY careful to take the unit AND the mount down when I am not in the vehicle. The suc cup does not leave any "tell-tale" (for a thief) rings on my windshield, but if it did, I would just wipe them away with a microfiber cloth that I always keep in my truck.

I use the vent mount you will find in the link. It is within arms reach and not too far out of line of sight.
