Alright, I need a little assistance here. I need to update my navigation maps in the truck. On my way back from Florida on 78 through Alabama to Mississippi to Tennessee, it looked like I was driving on no path. With all of the constant construction of highways, etc. everywhere, I would like to update it. Two questions: How much would it cost? Can you share a disk with someone else?

You, like me, likely have version 7.1 (says it on the disc). The only update I've seen is version 8.1, I "borrowed" my friends copy and to me it's not worth the money...I'd rather wait for the next update.
We need a couple guys with newer 2009s to go out, eject their nav disc and post their version number or even better... take a picture of it and post what the disc looks like.

They are about $350 but I've seen some discount parts websites selling them for around $250.

What drives me CRAZY is that Toyota wants $265 for an update NAV CD/disk. I told the dealer that I can buy a Brand new GPS from Garmin AND it has more features AND its portable, for about $150! Updates from Garmin cost about $75 each or $125 for LIFETIME updates. The Toyota price is WAY out of line. After explaining my point to the dealer and saying that after paying $40k on a truck, I want a current map, we settled on $160. Too much, but I want a current map. I also drove from MN to FL and back and was on alot of roads that "didn't exist". I think we should all contact Toyota and try to get the NAV update CD to a reasonable price. Had I known how unreasonable the updates are, I would NOT have purchased the factory NAV.
Yeah version 8.1 the newest release of the maps for 2009. I got 7.1 in the truck when I baught it but am going to try the newest 8.1 hacked hybird DVD today and see hwo that goes.. If all goes well it should have all the newest maps and still allow for the hack just not sure I liek hitting the I Agree button each time I start the truck almost gotten used to it since I got a hybird 7.1 DVD I am currently using now btu I also don't know if hitting the buttons with it each time I do need to use the nav while moving since I also have the Wilee SPG device wired in... I can report back later today if anyone interested. thre a few new roadway changes in my area now that I like to see if it got updated.
A member floated me a hacked 8.1 disk, will see how it works.....need some map updating in my area.

Toyota is not alone in this, the updated map for my wife's MDX is about $360. She's keeping the old disk for now. But it does hurt to pay $1,500.00 for an option which requires another few hundred every couple of years

Well I was out testing out the 8.1 DVD map to see if it was updated to some new highway changes around me and do dice ..
So I say if you want it for road updates may want to wait another year if our actually plan on buying the 8.1 version from the dealer. But maybe worth a run if you can get your hands on a copy another way. My 8.1 version has the old 5.1 loading file so it still has the I agree button but you can still go in and do the bypass so you can still do things with the nav when your in motion.
I wish someone would figure out a way to hack the loading files and alow us to bypass the I agree button on the old loading file.

I am with you WT on bypassing the I agree button....In theory what is the big deal about pressing one button, but damn I still find it a pain in practice....Oh well, still worth it to have the ability to use the nav while moving....
Edit: I wonder if Toyota will have a new 9.1 disk with the new 2010? Probably the same info just with a new label.....

+1 on that!
It was my first time using hybrid disc.
Did not like pressing Agree stuff and unlocking it each time. I am used to pulse generator switch with v 7.1.
However, I like that it shows me who is calling and does not make NAV go bananas

I just got a 2009 and it has the 7.1 version in it. If I had read this before delivery, I would have asked the dealer for 8.1. I'll post a pic later when I get it off my camera.

I picked up a a VAIS XM and iPhone adapter and it automatically bypasses having to press the accept button. The screen pops up but only for 5 seconds and then it automatically goes to the map screen.
I've got a 2008 Limited with Nav and with a hacked 7.1 disc and it was the only thing that kept me from getting replacing the factory Nav system on a brand new truck. Does anyone know if they have a list of changes/updates for the new version of the software?
