    Question Tundra Navigation System

I will be at the end of my lease (Toyota Tacoma Prerunner) in a few months and have my heart set on upgrading to the 2005 Tundra Double Cab. The internet has a wealth of information on most of the options available for the Tundra except for the Navigation System option. I have searched for hours trying to find some reviews on this option and stumbled here...

I am a user of the Garmin Street Pilot and do get a lot of good use out of it. When I found out that the Tundra has an optional Navigation system, I was excited about it...but at $2K, that is a pretty expensive toy...If it works well and none of you have too harsh of comments, I might consider ordering that option.

So my questions... If you have this option installed on your Tundra, what do you think of it? If you don't and know of web sites that have reviews or comments on this system, I would really appreciate it if you would point me to those sites.

    Thanks in advance...

    Don - Lakeside, CA

    Default Great Question!

Thanks for asking it-I am also very interested in getting Nav as an option. As a sales rep I would really like to have this feature.

I cant find a double cab-let alone a DC with Nav?
The dealer is checking to see if they can install an aftermarket Nav made by the same co toyota uses. It operates on the same software allegely?

The only Nav DC's that are out there appear to by loaded limiteds with the dvd option as well-

So to sum it up I would like to know how you guys like the nav system-

Without special ordering can I find a DC with nav and no dvd in the Northeast?

Can I find an SR5 with NAV with out special ordering?

    Thanks in advance
    Tim

I have the GPS navigation and highly recommend it. This is one of the reasons I traded my 2000 Tundra in for the 05 DC. It's an awesome unit. If you can think of something you want it to do it probably can. The manual is about 1/2 inch thick. It has a calendar with reminders when you start the truck and a maintenance screen with items for just about everything from oil changes to tire rotations. When you get to the mileage it reminds you service is due. The GPS used in the Tundra is basically the same unit they use in the Lexus. The GUI is different on some of the units but the software is the same. Check it out here.

Curiosity killed the cat but satisfaction brought him back.

Ahhhh Don, I see you're from Lakeside, We almost bought a house in Eucalyptus hills, but my wife didn't want to live "so far away". Sounds kinda funny comin' from a girl who grew up in Jamul.
If you haven't ordered a Tundra yet, I strongly suggest Dianne and Linda at Carson Toyota (got mine 2 weeks ago).
About the navigation, apparently it's not very available much at all here in CA (4x4s either). I expressed some interest in the system when I spec'd out my truck at the end of Dec. and was told of this.
Maybe things have changed, so give it a try. Let us know when you get your truck (pics) and I'll keep an eye out for it. I'm nearby in La Mesa, so we may cross paths at Home Depot or somewhere.

    Default nav system

Carson is a little high on msrp and I wouldn't suggest buying from them because if you shop around and do your homework you can find a better deal from someone else. The Toyota nav system is also a very rare Tundra to find in certain area of the usa and if you really want to have this item may I make a suggestion you can add this to any year Tundra I have incorperated the factory Toyota nav on my Tundra and so has another member Rlockyer check this link for more information on Nav System and Go buy an SR5 tundra and save Money and add this later on..The real cool part is think of all the money you saved Of $500 dollars on this feature vs what the dealership try to make on a sale on a $2,100 option try $1,695 or somewhere around that plus add on state tax etc and your time on a new mod ..

Rlockyer for your provided help on this topic and help on my install

you can Pm me or Rlockyer on this topic if you need any help on your install

    Thumbs up Thanks!

Outstanding information, folks...looks like I have come to the right place to chat about my upcoming purchase of a Tundra.

Thanks very much for taking the time to answer my questions. Due to the very limited availablity of finding a Tundra with a nav system pre-installed, I think I'll just scratch that from my list of initial purchase requirements and add the unit later.

website sayes 2003 because the benzel has little slight issue on the 2000 but nothing you can't trim out(drummen tool ) or just upgrade to the 2003 benzel beyond that and the color coding for the wires it fit's and work just fine on the 2000 after all nothing new in term's of instrement changes from the 2000 to the 2005 beyond a slightly different gauge cluster even that is a small detail to the naked eye

    Default Better Navi than Factory

I would rec. not buying the factory navigation. Instead check out the Eclipse AVN2454. They are the company(fujitsu-ten, same thing) that makes the factory navigation. It has the same navigation program with all the features of the factory navigation, yet it does so much more. It has DVD playback, so you can watch a movie(parked of course ) It has a stronger on board amp than the factory external amp. It has WAY more equaliztion and flexability(9 band eq). It has 3 sets of preouts so if you want to add a subwoofer, it will be much easier. It plays MP3's, did I say you can watch movies? Oh yeah I did. You can easily add the rear view camera option.

Check out the pdf for more info
    http://www.eclipse-web.com/products/pdf/index.html

I can get you one of these brand new for 1,600.

The pro's and con's of the eclipse system are this: look's added on and doesnt have a factory fit and finish on the Tundra center Pod..The toyota system does have a rear camera option and it will play Dvd's soon as that patch is fixed from coastal electronic's and a Jbl amp that I wouldn't say is underpowered at all.

I have the Eclipse Nav system as well as the back up camera. I love it!!! My other car has the Lexus nav and the Eclipse has more options. As far as fit and finish it looks like factory.

    Default GPS Options

I have a 2004 Dbl Cab SR5 and have installed the AVIC-N1 by Pioneer in my Tundra and have been very pleased. I have found the maps to be accurate and very helpful. Also voice prompts come in handy when in traffic. This unit also plays DVD, XM ready and Video inputs as well as TV antenna ready. This unit retails for $2000, I bought it locally for $1399.

I did a lot of research on Nav systems and decided on the factory unit. I liked it so much it bought it before I bought the truck! I had the truck 1 day before I installed the factory Nav system.
In the 05, it's literaly all plug-and-play. All the factory Navigation plugs all ready there!! It was a very easy install.
Plus I was able to hookup a backup camera to it, plus the factory Xm tuner.
It's awsome. I highly recommed the factory Nav unit.

nav prices factory toyota grade are $1,695.00 dollars and dont plan on them going down any time soon. You might get lucky and wait till one is wreaked but you better know what your getting into because if it's missing an amp or a speed seansor wire your screwed...
