Default Adding navigation to 05 Tundra

Are the vehicles ready for the navi unit from factory? Or is extra stuff required besides the display unit for the console? The units come up for sale all over the place (ebay, forums, websites, etc...) and I was wondering if it's more work / parts than it sounds!

I'd get an aftermarket nav unit. Toyota's unit is expensive for what you get.

But if you're talking $600-800 for the Toyo unit......?

One just sold on ebay for $765.00. The auction ended at around 1:00PM. I would have bid on it, but I'm on vacation in Lake Havasu and was at the Aquatic Center with my son.

That would have been a great price, assuming it really worked and was not from europe or something. You should have bid.

That was the one I was thinking about....however, are all Tundra's pre-wired for the Navi system? I imagine that if not, it would be a pain, and would then be easier to get an Eclipse, or Pioneer unit.

I am not really sure what you mean by prewired. I know the existing toyotat nav units do simply plug into your open DIN. There have been several posts on this here, do a search. More information here:
http://www.oemvalue.com/request/toyotanav.htm
There is some wiring issues involved to tap into the speed sensor wire, etc...but nothing major. If you are comfortable pulling your dash, etc to splice into a couple of wires, it is not a difficult job.

I just installed the Camry/Solara Nav system in my Dad's 05 DC. The Speed and Reverse wires were attached to a plug that was taped to the wiring harness. No need to tap, just remove the tape and plug into the Nav unit.

Default 05 install a breeze

I just got finished installing the 06 Solara navigation system into my 2005 Tundra Double Cab with the JBL system. Thanks to the instructions on OEM Values page and Tundra Solutions the install was a piece of cake. It took about 1 hr. It really was plug and play. In the tundra the reverse and vehicle speed sensor wires were already taped to the wiring harness behind the radio. The hardest part was trimming the mounting brckets. I used tin snips and it took 10 minutes. The best thing about this unit is if you have the RSE you can watch the DVD on the nav unit. This unit is awesome. :

Quick question, if it's plug and play, where does the GPS get it's source from? Is there an antenna to run and mount? Thanks for the info!

I mounted my antenna beside the nav unit on the drivers side heat vents. Check out the directions in the garage, its for a 03 tundra but the mounting method is the same
