The EWD is a book and is alot easier to navigate thru when looking things up. Flip page to page
The Toyota website is 100's of PDF's that you have to flip thru. The problm is the 06 and up models do not have any links from page to page.
In the 05 and earlier the page numbers are highlighted in BLUE, and if you click on them they take you to that page. The 06 and up , you cant navigate that way. You have to go search for the particualr page and its very hard to do. Very time consuming.
I have also been thru everything I thought pertained to the GPS antenna. I dont see it and it doesnt explain to well.
Sorry, i dont know what else to tell you, without having the vehicle infront of me. I would just get the wire diagram and start a continuity check form every wire from the head unit to the ecu in the back of the vehicle.

I was able to download all the pdfs wor the EWD for the avalon 06 and I made one big pdf out of it. Like you said it is easier to go thru.

I know that the antenna comes from to the back to some connectors by the passenger from door.

I am going to check all that tomorrow anyway.

I do really appreciate your help and the time that you spent trying to help me.

thanks again

Adrien

I have the two first not the other 3 but they are for the radio antenna.

Anyway, I'll try with the cable and a multimeter to find out if the cable is not cut, and if not I'll go to a dealer.

Thanks agani

Default Re: Nav Issue

Finally
We solved the problem.
But it took us time.
The problem was that the antenna cable is not a straight cable from the NAV ECU in the trunk to the antenna under the dashboard.
The hardest task was to find out where that cable was going thru and where the connectors where. There was no indication in the repair manual and wirring diagram to tell us where they were.
Starting from the back we where able to see that the cable was taking another route that the other cable.
it starts from the back, goes in the ceiling (on the back of the ceiling) from the left side to the right side, then passes on the curtain airbags gutters all along up to the dashboard and then to the antenna thru the dashboard.
On the way there are at least 2 connectors.
One is on the dashboard and easy to access by removing the glove compartment.
The other one, and it was the one that was disconnected, is located in the curtain airbag, by the from rigth tweeter.
we reconnected it and, it worked.

The navigation unit is working perfectly with no problem

The car system check do not indicate any error. Everything shows up as Ok

I hope that this will help other may be in the future.

I'd like to thank a lot all the people that helped in this endeavor.

Thanks all

Adrien

Glad to hear You fixed it
Sometimes you just have to jump in with both feet like you did. The books and manuals are just referances, it's down in the trenches or up in the headliners where you learn things.
Thanks for the learning experience, I think we all learned something.

Default Re: Nav Issue

thanks to hear.
Now I have two more problems to fix and we are done.
One is the airbag light that is on even when we drive.
the other one is the dynamic cruise control that first do not work, (I think it is not aligned properly) and that sometimes it shows error E3 in the instrument panel.
I'll will open two new threads (actually I think I have one already open for the cruise control)
So you might hear from me again.

thanks

There are no generic scan tools that will access the SRS, only the dealers scan tool.
This PDF should help you do it manually tho.
The other PDF is the code chart
