Everyone is bragging about having an HDD...but from an engineering standpoint, HD is not good especially in moving/vibrating structure. The HD is spinning constantly, built up heat (and in a car in the sun..ouch), and with all the bump, vibrations, it'll def. shorten its lifespan. I have never seen the Z1/Z2 but I sure hope the HD is external to be replaceable...cuz after 1 year warranty, it's going to be expensive cuz more than likely you'll have to ship it in for repair.
Now, for a $2k product, I would think they would put something like flash memories in there...memory prices are dropping like flies now so won't be THAT expensive anymore...also, it's a lot more stable, vibration proof, no skipping, and a LOT faster than HD. just my 2 cents.

There pretty good units and No reported issues on Overheating yet but there a lot better vs dvd rom drive which are slower and yes the hdd is replaceable on the z1/z2 pop a new hdd and bingo it's fixed just like a computer...

this is ridiculous. hd is way better. it will be outdated in a year anyway so who really cares about "lifespan". well worth the money.
