Thumbs up Successful (mostly) E7009 install in '06 Sequoia

Well here is my first TS post....

This weekend I did the install of the E7009 (2007 Solara) Navi unit into our new 06 Sequoia. I bought the unit from oemvalue.com. It really is a pretty simple install overall. I used the BEC-105 eclipse camera and the Toyota Japan microphone unit. One issue I ran into is with no R10 connector jack available, you have to individually push the backup camera and microphone pins onto the R10 connector. In my case the push button for the voice command is shorting out so the system doesn't think I have it (though the mic works fine with bluetooth). I need to pull it all out again and see if I can get a better connection or see if others have success in ordering the plastic R10 connector from Toyota. One other issue that I need to investigate is that the Rear Seat Audio stopped working but having pulled the unit out several times, I may have just missed pushing that connector back in. Will have to check that out.

Overall though, very nice unit. It looks great with the dash, Navi is very solid and usable and the bluetooth works great with my Nextel i870. Too bad this is my wife's vehicle!

UPDATE: Got the mic switch working right so the voice recognition is working fine now. Only issue left is that the Rear Seat Audio is dead. This one will take some more time to work out. Right now no one really has a schematic for the E7009 so its difficult to tell where it expects the RSA to attach (or if it even supports it).

the rear seat audio of a 2006 sequoia has a totally different wiring harness then the 07 moderls. there is no known way to make it work. i sell toyota nav retrofit kits and i always ask if the 2006 serquia and tundra vehicles has rse and then recommend the rse compatible e7006 headunit instead of the e7009.

Pioneersuby,

I have a 2005 Tundra Limited w/ RSE in back and The JBL Synthesis 6 CD player in front.

I would like to upgrade to Navigation.

Is the e7006 the only unit that will work with the RSE or will an aftermarket unit (Pioneer or Eclipse) work as well?

What would you recommend I do and wh ere is your shop?

the 4th generation nav unit e7006 is the only one that is plug in and play with no issues. the aftermarket is worse than e7009 as none of the parts will work right if you have the jbl amp. even if you dont have jbl I have a toyota digital amp and jumper harness which is plug in and play and gives the voice nav in drivers door . the back up caMERA AND VOICE COMMAND MIC ARE PLUG IN AND PLAY AND HAVE NO ISSUES LIKE THE 5th generation E7007 AND E7009. with 4th genration e7006 IPOD AND XM SERIUS HOOKUPS CAN BE HAD FOR LOW PRICE HOOKUPS LIKE IPOD2GO on the e7006 WHICH ARE NO LONGER RECOGNIZED BY E7009. you need to buy the expensive vaistech for the e7009. so it appears . if you miss your 6 disc indash changer a factory external cd changer can be daisy chained to the cd changer port. which doesnt work on the e7009. the e7006 is actually a more versatile unit and the only thing missing other than the multi changer is the bluetooth and all the trouble the 5th generation e7009 caUSES ISNT WORTH IT. bluetooth can be added in. my shop is in ohio but there is no need for help installing an e7006 . i would be available for phone help during the install unlike other nav sellers who can not be reached by phone. emial me at pioneersuby@woh.rr.com for more info or picxtures on the e7006 install. it is plug in and play with the retrofit kit i have available with no issues for the 2005 and 2006 sequoia or tundra which both remained 4th generation in 2006, the 4th generation rse does not work with 5th generation toyota navigation units.

How would you add Bluetooth to an E7006? Have you found any way to make the track display more than 10 characters? I added the Solara XM unit to my E7006 and it works great, just a little frustrating to only had 10 characters on song titles and artist names. Thought there may be some kind or fix or firmware upgrade for this.

thanks
