This is a discussion thread titled "Toyota Data v6.1?", within the GPS and Navigation Assistance forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Anyone know were I can get a copy of the 5.1 version
Of the disc or the kwi file? The disk can be found on ebay. I'm sure it's ok to share just the kwi file online, since you still have to pay for th 6.1 version disc, probably someone on here could share the file.
I am re-organizing my pictures, please PM me if you find dead pictures and I'll fix it. Also, I don't have many pics in my account here, best place to view my truck is on photobucket: Here is my photobucket account: LINK
As Vic posted below, this is what I did. Combined the loading.kwi file with the 6.1 data disk. This file is actually the firmware for the nav unit. For us Toyota folks, this really isn't a problem. For the Lexus folks, it is a different story for some. The 6.1 firmware corrects problems with the AC/heating controllers built into the nav system on their Lexus vehicles. It also appears to correct a problem were the nav system becomes 'lost'. But I have not heard of these problems with Toyota Nav systems.
Again, I want to point out that it isn't the easiest of tasks burning a DVD that the NAV system with accept. I ended up with several 'coasters' before I found a solution that works for me. And DL DVD disks are not cheap, yet.
Over on the Lexus forum, they stated any posting that referred to the trading, hosting or any other simliar activity in reference to the loading.kwi files was illegal. Talking about the procedure to do it was ok though. Word for the wise....
Anyway, it does work. Best of both worlds!!

Yes, it's not the easiest thing to do (burn a DL DVD so that the Toyota NAV will read it properly). There seems to be good results with the Verbatim DL DVD+R (Set your 'book type' on your software (i.e. Nero) to DVD-ROM and burn at the slowest speed.
You could also use this method for making backup copies of your Nav DVD (i.e.if you live in Southern California where the constant heat could damage the DVD over time, a backup would be a good idea Actually, just using the 'DVD Copy' of Nero should do it.
Setting of the book type is hardware dependant, ie, not all burners will allow you to do this. And it has been pointed out that making an ISO is better (and actually necessary if you are going to be combining the 5.1 loading.kwl with the 6.1 data) solution. You will need software that will properly place the layer change.

Could someone please just provide the V5.1 Loading.kwi file from their older map version. Sharing this file would help out everyone interested in testing this hack.
If I can get it to successfully work, I will repost detail instruction of how I did it. I am also will to create 5 copies at the cost of the DVD's and postage to five people who would hopefully do the same.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to the greater good of Toyota owners everywhere.
I see on ebay that a couple of Toyota Nav data DVD's forsale with v6.1 and they claim it just came out last month. I called two of my local dealers and they acted clueless about it. Does anyone have the part number for a 4th Generation (E7006) Nav unit v6.1 data DVD? I suspect that Toyota is going to ask and arm and leg for one of these, $300++ for just the DVD seems way out of line when you can get a very good nav device with better maps for the same cost. But my current data DVD doesn't show my home nor anything within a half mile of it. Hoping this version does.
Hello, can anyone verify that the 5.1 Loading.kwi file method will work on a 2007 Tundra with 6.1? Would there be anything about the 2007 Tundra that I need to worry about breaking?
