This is a discussion thread titled "Pioneer Avic Decision", within the GPS and Navigation Assistance forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
Hello All-
Hope I am in the right thread. I was recently wanting to add a Pioneer Avic Navigation unit to my 04 Tundra DC since someone on the Tundra thread recommended it and was wondering if anyone knew what the top model is on the avic version...I know I can check there website, but here is the problem I am running into. I see there is different variations of it but some arent even on the Pioneer website to compare. Ive been searching and so far come up with Avic-n1, n2, n3, and Z1. So far Avic-N1 is claimed by many selling it to be top of the line but on the pioneer website it has the Z1 as top product. Can anyone help determine which is best. I am looking for touchscreen, navigation, ipod, and rear view capability and the most recent model. Thanks again in advance...
I have a 05 DC and have a AVIC-N2.
Like the product but would DEFINITELY go for the N3.
I will display ALL of the Ipod / XM info (artist, song titile, etc.)
THe N2 only shows 8 characters on the Display. It suxs!
The Z1 is wicked cool but also pricey!
N3 is the way to go or the new D3 coming soon.

Great thanks. I will definitely check it out. Have u had problems with using ur ipod, when searching for songs on it, taking a long while to scroll down? One review I read on the Avic was that when he would scroll to look for songs on his ipod that it took 12 minutes to reach the bottom through the avic, and he has about 1k songs on it.
Ipod control???
It blows!
The best way to "search" for artist is to make a playlist.
The N2 DOES NOT show all of the info (artist, song title, etc.)
The N2 only shows 8 characters of text total.
The N3 will show all of the info. for the Ipod and XM.
I want to upgrade really soon.
(You can "unlock" both the N2 and N3 for increased navi. options and the ability to watch DVDs while in motion.)
Let me know if you have anymore questions.

It's the Z1. It has all the features you list and more. I have one and I like it, though Pioneer still isn't sensitive to the need to get around inside the iPod music library.
I"m waiting for the Avic D3 coming out supposedly in March? You can't beat that price for a double-din navigation with all the goodies found on pricier units.
My D3 is in and will get installed shortly.
The D3 has bluetooth capability, rear camera and ipod control.
The Z1 is no longer available per the Pioneer Rep in Iowa.
The Z2 is coming out sometime....maybe by fall or winter of 07.
Please don't shoot the meesenger. I'm just relaying what I was told.
Anyone want an N2? I got one for sale.

Very likely you read my post since I was the first Ts member to install the system. Overall I've been very happy with my Z1 and love it. Get the Z1 or upcoming z2 which is similar to z1 with some minor upgrades. The z1/z2 has a hdd hard drive which all the rest are going to have soon..

If money is not the issue, I would recommend the Z2... I installed a Z1 in my moms 06 as well as bluetooth, ipod, backup cam, and XM... she learned the unit in about a week... also the Z1 & 2 have a Hard drive that you can record cds to... that is a nice feature... kind of like an internal Ipod... good luck

I'm looking at the Z2 and wanted to know does anyone know if the factory steering wheel controls work with these?
