GPS and Navigation AssistanceOEM Car, Aftermarket and handheld navigation discussions.
This is a discussion thread titled "Factory Nav from "OEMValue"???", within the GPS and Navigation Assistance forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
What came with the system? Antennae? Trim ring? Was there anything you needed that was NOT included?
I guess all the negative posts and threads about OEMValue havebeen deleted, for unknown reasons, so I don't know the details off any of the lousy experiences others have been referring to. That's made it difficult to gamble on a purchase at "OEMValue" too...
I think we all no the rea$on why those posts/threads were deleted.
They did a similar thing with a thread in the audio/electrical wiring forum.
When somebody started a thread about OEM, the thread became QEM.
But hey, maybe it was just a mi$take.

The E7009 came with the GPS antenae (which mounts under the dash), the latest mapping software, a Toyota owners manual (about 200 pages), and in my case a speed sensor wire. You won't need that last item because your Tundra already has one "just hanging" from your main wire bundle.
There were plenty of items I needed that didn't come with the system because I was installing it on a first year Tundra where a JBL sound sytem wasn't even available much less a GPS Nav. I had to obtain custom wire harnesses, a JBL amp, custom brackets, a new instrument bezel which necessitated new center A/C vents, etc., etc.
Like I said before, on the later model Tundras and Sequoias - '04 and later, the unit is truly plug and play if you have the JBL amp and will work without the JBL amp on '06 and later vehicles. I would guestimate the install time in your case to be under two hours.
One word of caution, wait at least 15 minutes after you disconnect your negative battery terminal before "messing with any of the yellow connections behind the dash. That will give the capacitors time to drain and prevent any unwanted airbag deployments.
I've posted this several times before. Their previous website spelled out that they only reply to CUSTOMER questions. You have to purchase first before you are a customer. Pre-sale inquiries were not allowed.
I've scoured their current website and can no longer find this verbiage. So, the website changed, but it appears that their practices have not.
Their web-site, like most, says something like, "If you have questions please contact us at..." A business which requires customers to spend $2,000 before they'll answer a question is trying a novel approach - and one which most potential buyers will not appreciate.
I recently purchased the e7009 unit from OEM Value and can speak on the behalf of Troy who is doing this as a side business from what it seems and is definitey over whelmed from the inquiries on such an awesome upgrade to any Toyota. He did what he had to do to get me a unit before Christmas and answered all my questions prior to me even purchasing. The unit installed in about a half and hour and it came with everything brand new out of the box. I couldn't have been more satisfied and would recommend oemvalue to anybody looking to get a sweet upgrade to their toyota for a fraction of the cost from a dealer.

The problem is, sometimes a buyer needs information in order to effect a purchase. For example, the "OEMValue" site says that 2005 Tundra owners will need to purchase a microphone in order for the bluetooth to work. It didn't mention the 2003, 2004, or 2006 model years, but I don't see a built-in microphone in our truck. I don't want to just assume that I need to spend the extra money on a microphone and trim ring, but I don't want to get the unit and find that I need the extra parts half way through the installation process, so I sent them an email. Actually, I've sent them four emails over the last month. They cant be bothered to answer me (although the advertisement encourages people to email any questions). Obviously, they don't give a cr@p.

What's the trick? Would you be willing to email him (Troy) for me with the above questions? I'm serious, he will not respond to me. I'm also interested in an iPod interface if you have any information. The link he includes leads to the $300 solution...that's a pretty spendy AUX input. (The iPod interface for our old Acura was $165 and I thought that was pretty steep for a simple wiring harness.)

I wish I knew the trick, just never had the same issues that you guys have had. I never had any previous purchases through him but was just rather interested in getting a good deal on an upgrade. I think you will find more answers in these forums on the acessories you need for your install. My bluetooth works perfect... probably would work better if I had the mic... but it still connects to the phone and dials perfect with the numbers found in the navi system. Maybe one day I will install the mic and ipod interface. I am still looking for a better interface as well ($300 is a lot). I heard ipod2car has a good interface. We will see. Feel free to PM if you have any questions on your install. It is way worth it, I installed it fairly quickly and added a backup cam shortly after.

How does the Bluetooth work without a mic? More precisely, how does the person on the other end hear you if there is no mike to collect your voice?

I was getting to that... sorry... I don't have the mic so they can't hear me. Bu t it connects flawlessly and dials without a problem. It is definitely worth getting the e7009 model vs the previous models primarily due to the fact that most autos and phones being developed will work with bluetooth. The mic is a must along with the steering wheel controls that allows you to pick up and end calls. I am still waiting to get these installed because i haven't really seen the benefits of getting this installed yet. I am sure one day I will get an itch and have to get it, but I am good for right now.

Where/how did you mount your antennae? Did it come with that? And the trim rings you needed to make it look right?
I definitely want completely functional Bluetooth, as I'm trying to get my wife out of the habit of fussing with the phone while driving, but that's how she gets lots of work calls. I want her to have the controls on the steering wheel too. It would be really cool if there was a business I could work with that could help me work through what I need and put it together in one order...
Thanks for all your time and help on this. If it were not for my wife's dislike of the "high-tech" Z1 solution, I would have already bought a second one and installed it in the Tundra, but she really doesn't want all the extra goodies and "fancy stereo" - so I'm left trying to find somebody who will answer my questions AND sell me a nav unit.

The GPS antenna mounts under the dash on a little bracket. I've seen velcro used as an alternative. (the antenna is also available on ebay, you just neeed to finds the right conector)
As for trim ring, none are really needed. What area are you thinking of?

The GPS antennea mounts under the dash? Hmmm. That doesn't make much sense to me...
The trim ring is whatever is necessary to make the new nav/radio look "factory" in the dash. Since OEMVAlue doesn't answer email I have no idea what the unit comes with - and I was blown away by the fact that it didn't come with a microphone. Frankly a Bluetooth system isn't any use if the person you're speaking with can't hear you... And a GPS unit isn't any good without an antennae.
Is that why the price is slightly low for the unit - you have to go buy all the parts necessary to install and use it?
Doesn't the unit come with a GPS antennea? I mean, when I bought the Z1 it came with the antennea, the microphone for the Bluetooth and all the stuff necessary to install it.
