Default Compatibility NAVTEQ Europe-USA

I recently moved from Europe to USA and took my brand new Toyota RAV4 (2006) with NAVTEQ build-in navigation system. I tried to get information if I could use the Toyota/Lexus North-America DVD in my system. I have received different answers. In The Neherlands I was informed that the DVD for North America would not work in my car, and I would need to install new navigation-DVD hardware (that's a lot of money). The Toyota Dealer here in Va Beach told me that the North America DVD might work but that I might have problems when returning to Europe with my Europe disc. Toyota USA (California) could not anwer my question. I emailed Navteq in Europe twice with the question but never received a reply. Who can help me out with the right information. "Can I safely insert a NAVTEQ North America navigation DVD in my car without any risk and will it work??"

I have it the other way around: I took my Sequoia '05 from the USA to the Netherlands. With the help of my Toyota dealer overhere I tried two type of DVD maps in my E7006 factory navigation without result. The system was not hurt so I guess you can try it in your RAV4 also without any problems. Do not know if you will have any luck though. I analysed the map data and saw that all the nav info have same file formats. But difference in systemfiles. Do not know which ones to change but will keep trying.

Question for Pioneersuby: do you know any trick to make the DVD map working on the E7006?

The Toyota RAV4 does not come equipped with factory navigation. It was probably added by the dealership or Gulf States Toyota (GST). What is the model number on the front of the unit? What is the brand logo on the front? Did you receive an owners manual? What does it say about getting a disc for another country?

NAVTEQ only supplies the map database which explains why they didnt answer you. They merely provided the content... not the operating system.

The factory installed navigation systems are engineered and designed for operation in the US only. The operating systems are different for Europe and the US.
