GPS and Navigation AssistanceOEM Car, Aftermarket and handheld navigation discussions.
This is a discussion thread titled "Avic Z1 in an '07 Tundra??", within the GPS and Navigation Assistance forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I'm looking to purchase an '07 Tundra, and was interested in getting NAV. However, I'm not sure if I want to go OEM or aftermarket (such as teh Avic Z1).
Does anyone know if the Avic Z1 would fit in the new '07 Tundra? It looks like a standared 2 din slot, but it curves back towards the top. I want to make 100% sure it'll fit, before I decide on a NAV.

I've allready asked this question since i have a Pioneer Z1 on my current Tundra and Hate the lame unit's Toyota has. Right now the aftermarket is going to have to design a dual Din Benzel for the 2007 Tundra Currently Nobody has that yet and give in 6 week's to design such a Unit..You aiming in the right direction going with Pioneers Z1 or upcoming Z2 (based off the z1)..
Based on the Voice command features and Hdd hard drive with voice command's for Music stored this system is top Notch not to mention your getting Xm traff navi even the Toyota system doesnt have that..
does Toyota unit's pull music up this fast based on voice commands "NO they dont"
Thanks for the reply! I'm going to hold out for the Z1/Z2 instead of putting in a factory NAV. Now I just need to wait and see if they can accomodate the new tundra dash (since it sweeps out at the top).
I emailed Pioneer, but they just told me to go ask a local installer. Hopefully over the next few months (when the crewmax comes out), I'll have the truck and a Z1/Z2 installed
I too am vasilating on factory nav or not but if I pick up a AVIC-Z1/2 is it truly going to be "plug and play" and work with the JBL amps and 12 speakers in the truck?? Do I need to wait for an aftermarket dashkit and wiring harness?
I have also been trying to find out who OEM's the nav for the tundra, I have heard both Denso and Eclipse (Fujitsu ten) mentioned but nothing confirmed.
And finally, how many POI's do the factory nav have???
Maybe a little off of the subject, but what kind of resale do you think you are going to get with an aftermarket nav unit. Yeah they are great and the options are heavily favored towards their side, but when you turn that key and that beautiful toyota symbol flashes before starting up you know that day will come when you sell your truck for an upgrade you will be getting top dollar. Especially when they see you haven't thrown away your money and chopped the wire harness up for an aftermarket nav unit. The OEM nav unit will practically pay for itself if you can get a hold of one for less than 2K. Every dealer will think you paid their markup. You are paying for the logo and not just the features. Just a thought.
