Default DVD NAV System not GPS?

I was just reading another thread and someone mentioned the NAV system was not GPS. What kind of NAV system doesn't have GPS? How can it navigate if it doesn't know where you are?

Not sure what NAV you are talking about. The New Tundra 07 DVD Nav unit uses GPS. Take a look at the iguide. Clearly states it uses Global Positioning Stallites and has an accuracy of up to 100ft.

OK thanks.
Had me a little worried there. Someone posted in another thread the system wasn't a GPS system. I looked in the brochure and it didn't say GPS so I thought he might have been on to something. That would suck if it wasn't.

More than likely they were referring to the speed sensors that also connect to the nav. It sounds like they might have thought that was the primary navigation method. These are used so the nav system can continue to track when it loses satellite signal. This is more of a fail safe type arrangement. Primary navigation is done through GPS.

The United States GPS system is the only navigation system available in the World for consumers, the new more advanced European navigation system Galileo, will not be operational (worldwide) before 2011.
