I'm in. I am so tired of not really trusting my brakes to stop safely at 65+ without rear ending the guy in front of me (and I leave PLENTY of room in most cases). Like keninsb said, the installation instructions are on the SOS web site and I can't imagine them being any easier for a Tundra kit. I watched an episode of Speed or one of those car shows designed for do-it-yourselfers not too long ago and they installed a big brake rear disc conversion kit on a Mustang that most junior high kids could have done, with the before and after test results showing a significant improvement in the stopping distance. I used to be in the group that believed the rear drum brakes are good enough since they don't do the greatest percentage of stopping anyway. And I subscribed to the theory that most tractor-trailer rigs use drum brakes and as heavy as they are they can stop pretty well, right? Then my employer gave me a new Trailblazer for my company vehicle with four wheel discs and I cannot believe the difference it makes in your ability to stop quickly and safely. That was enough to sell me on the idea of disc brakes on all wheels.

The calipers used for this conversion are from an '87-88 T-Bird Turbo Coupe. Pads can be ordered for those calipers. I checked some different sites for pads because I want to use ceramic pads (my wheels are a pain to clean). I ended up ordering new EBC Red Stuff Ceramic pads for the front and rear from Buybrakes.com (I needed new front pads anyway and wanted to match them up).
I think that the only parts that are really custom are the caliper mounts and brake hoses. Most other parts can be bought OTC.
Hope this helps.
Ken

Does any one have this mod installed, I'm curious to the improvement, if any? I replaced my front calipers a couple of years ago with some good brembo's and I think the stopping power is pretty good now.

TS member dogger did the install. You can see his comments in this thread.

Exclamation Re: Proposed Group Buy: Sos Disc Brake Conversion For The '00 To '06 Tundra

SOS now has the new installation instructions for the disc brake conversion. I copied it and put it in my photos here.

Thumbs up Re: Proposed Group Buy: Sos Disc Brake Conversion For The '00 To '06 Tundra

Sign me up for a set!

Looks like everybody with this conversion lives in the warm climate. Anyone know how they perform on snow and ice?

2003TRD: I am not sure about the cold weather thing. I was told that disc brakes are better if they get wet because they dry off quicker. Not sure about the cold though.

Kaleo: I am not sure on the difference between the standard kit and the pro-series kit. I emailed Tom to see if he could clarify.

Thanks,

Ken

Just bumping this group buy, I am interested but not yet a positive. Just looking for a few more 1st hand experiences with this setup. Also from the instructions and pics it looks like the parking brake uses the caliper as a mechanical brake? So no more drum shoes? Just want to clarify. Oh and one mmore? What kind of rotor are they? Since the calipers and pads are t-birds, are the rotors the same?

OK, Group Buy is officially closed. However, you can still contact Tom at Sosperf@aol.com and he said that TS members will receive special pricing.
Thanks to all that contributed and participated.
