They do have a map for your setup. The intake maps are slightly different. All exhaust maps are the same as well as shorty style headers.

For the 4.7 guys are we exptected to pay if/when the GB closes or are we able to wait until our model is finished and tested.

Also can the unichip be programmed to adjust shift points and calibrate the speedo?

Thanks

Count me in if the limiter is removed and they can map my setup (see below or my sig)...

I see their CAI lists TrueFlow XD, but mines is just the TrueFlow filter in a modified (Tremo's Ram Air Performace System) stock airbox. Also I noticed that the CAT/B is only mapped for all cat-back systems. Do you suppose they have something for when I use my Quick Time Performance cutouts that nearly bypass the muffler entirely? I have no intentions of changing out the headers either. I don't drag and have no intentions of doing so, I've just wanted a chip forever and this price is hard to pass up.

Lastly, may someone hold my hand and help me locate the closest dealer/tuner? i've tired browsing with IE, Firefox, and Opera...but can't find a dealer/tuner. maybe post a link?.?.?.?

btw, I see that Map A and Map B are typically adjusted for low octane and high octane. What about medium? My local station offers 87, 89, and 92 octanes. I opt for 89 octane.

You can find a dealer using Unichip's website "Locate a Dealer".

You won't want to map the cutout unless you are going to run the cutout all the time. This is not a flip-on the switch at will type of piggyback mod. You will also want to do the stock configuration. A drop-in filter is not the same as the CAI. Regardless of what we argue about on the Gen1 forums. I am pretty sure that the CAI they mention is referring to the cone&tube configurations.

MAP A and MAP B can be whatever you want. The default is 87 and 93 (or 92) octane. If you want them to make yours 87 and 89, or 89 and 93, that is entirely posisble, you notify them during processing though.

ps. I got all this from their FAQ.

Tundradrenalin you're a life saver. Thanks for answering those questions. For you 4.7 guys, you will have to pay the deposit of $100 to guarantee a spot on the GB list and lock in your lower price. I spoke with Mike and they are actively looking for a 4.7 Tundra owner in the Portland, Oregon area to submit their truck for mapping. Whoever does it will receive a free tuner. PM me if anyone is interested and I'll give you Mike's contact info. As far as mpg increases, they are putting together numbers for Hwy, city, and towing mpg increases and will release those shortly. I would expect an increase of around 2-3 mpg's city and maybe up to 4-5 hwy. Mike says that we will be VERY impressed, so let's just wait and see. We can all justify the purchase to our wives now, since we'll get much better gas mileage. For everyone still on the fence, there's only five spots left. If you're really thinking about getting a tuner, now's the time to jump on and guarantee your discounted price. You can't go wrong with this product. Thanks to everyone who is participating.

As for the intakes we have tested for:
Volant

Airaid
AFE
K&N
True Flow XD

NOLA they have tested all these intakes, but not the TRD cai as yet? You would think that would be the first on the list. Do you suppose it would make any difference in the mapping if the charcoal filter were removed from the TRD cai housing?

No, as far as I know, they haven't tested the TRD. I'm not sure how much more air the intake will flow with the filter removed. Even if they had a TRD intake, I doubt they would test it that way though. They won't be able to test every imaginable combination, especially modifications to a modification lol, but their base maps will be pretty good for most. Upon placing your order, simply tell them what your mods are and they will choose the map most suitable for you.

Thanks for the fast reply NOLA. I didnt expect them to have removed the charcoal filter, but I did think they would have tuned for the TRD intake. I was just curious if the charcoal filter removal would make much differance. Anyway I have emailed Unichip the same question.
I have a unichip authorized tuner shop close by. They just told me they charge $150. an hour to tune, and it takes from 1 to 2 hours to tune. I asked how much more I could expect to gain and they said they have not done a tundra 5.7 as yet, so they could not say. I may give them a try.

Fast response from Unichip as well:

Yes we are planning on doing a TRD CAI - we are currently waiting parts
- there should be no difference between filter in or out - but our
engineers will make a note to check just in case.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the TRD CAI is made by AFE and is the same concept & model, just a different marketing crowd. Was this changed in the 2007 CAI development? I dunno.

As for the charcoal filter (aka: carbon filter), this was introduced in 2005. It may have to do with the VVT-I and heating the MAF air with crankcase air. The MAF senses air too cold and the crankcase will spit air from the pcv to warm the intake air. The crankcase air may have carbon deposits that could potentially harm the backside of the filter, so they added the carbon filter. [note: this is my carbon filter theory]

I have a question, if we go over 50 on the GB, is that ok with UNA?
I mean, if more people come to the party, we'll need more chips, and UNA makes more money at the door (considering they haven't produced the chips yet).
I know we will start the ordering when the gauge hits 50, but can we go a few degrees higher?
(sorry for all the analogies)

Cool. Yeah, Jack responds pretty fast. You're lucky to have a shop nearby, It shouldn't take them more than an hour and a half to tweak the base map from Unichip, if that long.

I'll check and see if they will go a few higher, but it may have to be a situation where a couple people joined at the same time and went over 50. there would also have to be extra harnesses allotted for the GB. I'll let you know as soon as Mike responds back.

Default Re: Proposed Group Buy: Unichip P&P Tuner For 07+ Tundra & All Toyo Trucks & Suvs

Mike just sent me another update.

Speed Limiter
We can’t guarantee the speed limiter right now, We have people working on this all over the world to figure out how to do this w/o entering the ECU. What I can say is we are working on it and it is a goal of ours, not only for the average customer but also for a large group of race teams (Baja, and Middle East). What I can promise is when we find an answer it will be available as an update to your Unichip.

Flux
Flux will not be released before the GB. We are 1-2 months still out. We are working on it every day, trying to locate special parts need, designing software that will be end user friendly and give the customer some great toys and benefits to play with. The additional cost on any Toyota (NEW OR OLD) unit with flux will be $220.00 upgrade.

Exhaust
We have found aftermarket exhaust systems Help the 5.7L breath, and sound cool! Put when it comes to mapping between aftermarket manufactures, there is not enough difference between the systems to make a different map. Now, Stock vs. Aftermarket it does make a difference. We are looking for a local tundra with headers to test how much of a difference it truly makes. We have 2 trucks out with headers on the east cost and both of the have a map with CAI & Cat B exhaust. Both trucks seam to be working great and have no engine lights. This tells us it must be close to what it needs to be. How Close? Not sure until we get a test unit. But close enough that if we tune it we may only gain 2 -4 more HP if any. With that size of a rig you may not feel it. I do recommend headers, anytime you can get heat out of an engine it’s a good thing.

Which Cold Air Intake creates more power?
This is a tough question; people have so many different opinions about this subject. Which is better, they all do their job properly. They all can’t perform to their fullest with out an exhaust. Then this is where we come in and adjust open and closed loop and adjust fuel trims back to 14.7. At this point they all are with in a few HP’s. My tuner likes the Volant, I like the True Flow. A local guy loves his Airaid. We don’t have any numbers to print for you. So my answer to your question is: They all do their job.

I don't remember an pvc inlet prior to the carbon filter. I will have to look again cuz I suffer from crs (can't rember $h1t) and I installed it almost a year ago. If this is so I may have to rethink whether I want it removed or not. Seeing those deposits on the filter should help make up my mind if there are any. Still not enough restriction to even move the filter restriction gage. I think I have read several posts about others removing it recently.
Mikes latest update makes my want header$. Good thing the chips are updatable...
